IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH!

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

I gave myself unlimited time when i began doing gestures. Really i never liked the time limit concept but it could work for some people.
The point is to not waste time on the details of the body. Just convey the pose while keeping an eye on proportions and positioning. Doesnt matter if it takes 15 minutes or 3.

And dont listen to the other anon, gestures are good for begs.

tiny feet, tiny head, tiny waist. Hip area doesn't make any sense.
Draw your body before putting on clothing so you don't fuck up your proportions or worse you cope by hiding your shit anatomy behind the clothing.
Sloppy work, put more effort and planning in the construction stage next time.

>>5070890
you're nowhere near /int/

>>5070903
1. your lines are too thick
2. you sketch out too many lines instead of committing to defined shapes.
construct more precisely, it's easy to cope by scribbling/erasing lines until it kind of starts looking good to your eyes. It's a bad habit to have.
I can't critique this because you haven't committed to anything yet.

>>5070914
1. you're treating an ink brush like a graphite pencil
2. don't scratch out your lines, do long, purposeful lines.
3. eyebrows and eyelashes shouldn't be drawn as individual strands, especially not with your huge brush.
4. anatomy wise there are many inaccuracies, those can be fixed by observing the reference more carefully.
5. draw slower, don't rush the basic structures, don't add detail where you shouldn't add detail (wtf are those lines on her cheeks in the layer below).

>>5070921
worst thing is the anatomy, get the structure of the head correctly, draw the skull and facial features before drawing the hair.
less important but your brushwork is pretty bad, learn to blend properly.

As for perspective, good effort going for a background. Though it doesn't look like she's "standing" on anything solid. The floor is a little ambiguous. As for the body, the proportions are not well defined. Her left forearm is longer than her right. Her torso is too long too and she looks off balance. The chin should usually aligns with the center of balance. At least that's what I've been told. The gun looks like it's in two different perspectives and the wall it points to is so narrow, it looks like it would be phasing into the wall. Hope that makes sense. Keep drawing anon. Drawing and drawing and drawing. As long as you're giving it an honest effort you're gmi.

Finally had time to color this guy, I hate how flat my drawings look when I color them digitally. I tried to use some textured brushes but it just ended up being really muddy. You’re not providing a criticism which can be qualified - the rib cage compared to what? The breast compared to what (my wife has tiny tits and still has that line when her arms arch back). What body are you referencing that should qualify your criticism? There’s more than a few.

Use the right brushes. most people rely on simple ones that just change size or opacity when you push the stylus harder and don't really emulate what happens when you do the same with a pencil.
Krita has more people doing custom brushes to emulate tools better than the vanilla version does than actual developers.

Here’s the issue with that form of accuracy:

A good artist sees the big picture. It’s going to prevent you from completing anything if you can’t see the forest for the trees. 95% of what I produce is right out of my head and after I get the general form I select the details that need work. I’ve been at it for 36 of 39 years.

There are no bad drawings or failures. That’s like saying an experiment is a failure. It isn’t. You discover what variables aren’t the cause is all. Same with art. You figuring out what doesn’t work is just as important as knowing what does work.

Yeah that was something I struggles with. I can look at the sketch layer and see that the pelvic box is clearly places on the couch and that the bend and compression flows from the chest and onto it but once I add clothing things quickly fall apart.

I don't know. Maybe if I bunched his shirt up more closer to the waste to really show where things were being squished?

I think it was a mistake to place the bow and his puffy pants first. Should have placed the shirt first and if it got covered up later than I could have seen where I needed to exaggerate the folds in the shirt.

I don't know. Maybe I'm over thinking this.

Also maybe learning perspective would help.

Thanks for providing a good ref for future use.

I try to make light first lines but since I make so many mistakes they end up pretty dark. So I have problems further darkening them.
What do?

Don't get attached with just 1 drawing. I suggest you to move on. See what you did wrong and apply it to new projects.
Always use ref.

How should one properly use reference? Copy it so close you can overlay it, or just use it to get jist of the pose and the anatomy and proportion?

Depends on what you want to do with it, but I would say learn from the pose and anatomy.

Thanks man you're right. I'm going to use it to practice painting on, see what I can learn from that and then shelve it.
