IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice.
We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH!

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:
1. screenshot the image and post that instead
2. change camera capture settings to something smaller
3. send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:
https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

If I want to mostly do architectural/landscape/environmental stuff, is it still advisable to just follow the guide to do anatomy drawing? is it something that just builds all the necessary steps to make an image no matter the style? or is there some kind of guide I should follow instead to get into archi/landscape with less wasted time?

OK anon, first of all you did all right there as far as perspective. However, though I know it's part of your design using the big balloon blob thing, BUT this drawing screams Rob Liefeld levels of hiding hands and feet. I'm not saying that's why you did it, nor would most casual observers notice it, but I'm old and grew up having to look at his horrible art in my favorite comics.

Post looks very stiff to me. I would do some more gesture drawings. I'm guessing she's supposed to be doing a seductive swaying walk towards the camera while doing some fire magic? Push the hips to the side more, really stretch the dynamism of the pose. In my experience you wanna overshoot the gesture a little before you rough in the forms, as the pose tends to stiffen up a little as you sketch it in, your results may vary.

You're just pasting the features onto the face without thinking of the underlying structure. Even in anime that structure exists. Here's a comparison of eyes that are just flat, then eyes that curve around the face, then eyes that sit in the socket with the curve. Even very simplified anime takes this into account when drawing heads at an angle, even if only subconsciously.

Hit send too early.

Addtionally, your eyes aren't even in perspective. You have the left eye bigger than the right, despite it being farther from the camera. I'd grab an anime you like, and try and find a scene where the character turns their head. Really look at how the features change. They grow in size, shrink, hide behind other features, etc.

>>5066314
I could only read it because of the leg. Even stylized you wanna look at reference just to see how the pose "should look". Remember, it's just an exaggeration of reality.

Again, at least in my experience, I lose a lot of the dynamism of the pose as I block in the forms.

Don't ever be scared of experimenting when drawing. That's how you learn, right? I'd try that pose several times, just quick gestures, pushing it more each time, then block them in, you'll start to see when the pose it "too much" or "too stiff"

in 1 point perspective you can use a 45 degree measuring point cast from your station point to get perfect squares.
by drawing from the end of a line representing one edge of the square, towards the 45 degree measuring point you can get the depth of a perfect square, with edge lengths the size of your original line.
if you practice enough with the CONE (pic related) you can estimate the 45 degree measuring point when it's off the page and begin to estimate perfect squares much easier.
in two point performing this task gets even more wild

The gesture is improving slightly. Did you use a reference? A quick youtube search pulls this up

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JcsBdKnNMHY

Notice how much hip sway there is in real life. If your poses keep coming out too stiff, go to the opposite end and just go really over the top with them, and scale back from there.

Look at the values of your reference again. The back and side of the breast have shadow you're missing. Your feet need work as well. The shoulder area has wonky angles, and you seem to be placing your highlights on her body randomly.

Okay so first I wish I were better so that I can help more with a redraw but I’m obviously beg too. Anyway my thoughts is that a lot of the drawing is broken due to misunderstanding. So what’s giving off the very uncanny head is cus you basically didn’t apply any perspective to the face you drew and just drew it how you see it in a a reference I think. You really should look into proportions of heads fo shoulders and how clavicles are positioned, I don’t think they would ever be angled down like that especially with that posture

TLDR of that is the head and body basically don’t match at all and the body is far too long mostly thanks for the legs. Drawing things like toes is very not important until you fully figure out constructing the rest of the body cus it’s a waste of time decorating something potentially bad. I think you’re on the right track for actually drawing and you should either try redrawing a lot of that maybe with this edit in mind or just start something new and keep perspective in mind while using ref

If anyone thinks my advice is bad on this, I’d be happy to see how you’d improve on the drawing

Why is it that every now and then some histrionic person comes along to cry about how art is impossible without talent or how they've been cursed to not improve? This does not happen in any other hobby community, but happens practically daily in every art community.

I have never seen someone saying that getting good at fighting games is impossible, that writing is impossible or that cooking is impossible. I've never heard people complaining about how weaving/sewing requires a magical ligament to do properly. I could go on, believe me.

But with drawing, it's pretty much a common thing for someone to talk about the ligameme, or talent, or simply about how art is impossible to them. What makes drawing different? Does drawing just attract highly neurotic people?

Everyone is missing the point. Out of the about hundred thousand identical perspective lessons on the internet and in books, I've only ever seen one that teaches a method for placing the object at an angle other than "all faces perfectly aligned with the perspective lines". Unfortunately I can't remember where that was.

So if you wanted to draw a city where NOT every single building is made of rectangles aligned on the same major axes, and there are actually diagonal walls, or buildings with a different orientation from the rest (say, one that faces 15 degrees southeast instead of south)... then you're screwed. All of these perspective tutorials deal only with the situation where every single thing has the exact same orientation.

Draw a thousand pictures and you'll see plenty of improvement. Draw ten thousand and you'll be great. This only takes ten years if you draw three a day, three years if you draw ten a day.

Draw lively sketches, not precise lines. The only person I've known that couldn't make progress over several years of trying was one autistic perfectionist who would insist on drawing perfectly steady, pristine lineart without ever letting go of the control and just sketching loosely.

Nice, was also wondering if you built the form using construction, or if you just went at it. It looks like it could be construction, but I can't really tell.

Not really following any particular technique, the hands, feet legs and arms is me just winging it. For the body, it's mostly the ribcage and pelvis squares/cylinders taught by Michael Hampton and Krenz.

>> No.5067911

>>5067909
Subtle gesture or rather, subtle muscle movements and flow of the body requires you to really have an eye for it and being able to see it at the first glance and be able to feel out the overall flow of the body, you also have to include things like balance as well.
Despite being harder than pronounced figures they’re much more fun to do than overly dramatic poses.

And is subtle gesture something I will just "get it" after enough gesture drawing sessions?

>> No.5067920

>>5067913
You will get it if you’re really paying attention while doing gesture drawing, a good practice is try to exaggerate the pose as much as possible without it looking too wonky and disfigured.
If you’re asking why I know this, it’s more from experience and observation with a bit of trying to come up with an answer.
I might probably watched a video like villpu or read through a book on the movements of the body or anatomy but I largely forgotten most of it (including the names of muscles :(((.) damn I really need to know the names of the muscles more.

I feel kind of bad for people like 4 months anon, because the only reason they're like this is because they literally have never had a moment in their lives with ANYTHING where they overcame some obstacle that they thought they couldn't do, with enough hard work and effort. If they had, they could look at those past experiences to give them confidence to continue. But without it, they're forever stuck in the mindset that if you can't do something in x amount of time, it means you never will, which is just stupid.

>> No.5068198

>>5068189
As an example. My first real experience with this was back in college, when I thought I would fail Calc 2 a second time, and nearly fell into the spiral of just not being smart enough. Until I remembered Gurren Lagann and thought to myself "If they can fight against an enemy the size of the universe, I sure as shit can give it one final crazy attempt." And I locked myself in a room for basically a week doing absolutely nothing but grinding math. I passed that exam with a 98 and passed the class.

This came into play later, when I was playing Bloodborne. I was getting fucking salty on the DLC, but I thought back to that Math class and was just "I will throw myself at this fucking wall until I break through it." And stone faced did it.

It doesn't matter how dumb the confidence comes from. What matters is you have the experience of overcoming something you thought was impossible. This carried over into my career now as well, and now with drawing as I look back on all those times I thought I couldn't do it. Now my mindset for everything is "it doesn't matter if I'm shit, if I keep doing it, at some point it won't be shit."

4 months anon needs to have this breakthrough at some point in life.
