5046495 No.5046495 [Reply] [Original]

2021 is the year Microsoft releases new Surface devices with pen tech FAR surpassing that of Wacom and Apple. The new Surface Pen's will have 0 IAF and 0 line wobble. And the displays will have 0 parallax with 120MHz refresh rate.

Wacom has lost its way, and Apple had their 15 minutes of fame. Microsoft knows what they need to do They will be the platform of choice for digital artists in 2021.

Mark my words.

Will it work with Photoshop? Will it be even remotely affordable? Will it even have enough CPU and RAM to run art programs at a half decent resolution?
Because if not I don't give a shit.

apple had that in like 2017
the only way they could get me to give a shit is if they did something really fancy with a downscaled version of the surface dial

They're gonna push the same wobbly n-trig pens. If anyone is fighting evenly with Apple and Wacom, it's gonna be Samsung, and thats just by using the same pen tech as Wacom.

Okay, but you didn't have desktop apps. CSP sucks on iPad Pro due to little screen and limited performance.

wrong, it suffers next to no performance issues because it’s a single threaded piece of shit anyway
there’s also like 4 desktop apps on ipad

>Okay, but you didn't have desktop apps.
Both Android and iPad have apps to use them as a pen display with a PC, so this point has little weight. On android I find the difference between SuperDisplay and a Cintiq to be minimal. Can't speak for the iPad, but Duet Pro is supposed to function similarly.

>> No.5046746

>>5046737
Considering the fact that people are crying about how bad duet is and astropad requires a Mac and someone recently had to buy another real tablet because their ipad apparently didn't cut it, one can conclude that Applefags are stuck without proper screen mirroring forever and that an android is mandatory.

The biggest issue with using the Microsoft surface for drawing is that most art applications on windows are still designed to only be used with a mouse and keyboard. Even if the desktop versions are more "powerful" compared to mobile art apps, their interfaces aren't suited to be handled by touchscreen only.

Here's a random example that shows the difference between art studio pro's mobile ipad interface and desktop macOS interface. You can see how the interface was designed differently for both devices so it would be the most comfortable for the user.

That's why it doesn't matter how much better hardware microsoft makes their surface devices. The software issue will never go away.

yes, they do. iPad can natively be used as a pen tablet on macOS. you don’t need astropad or any of that other stuff. stop fucking posting if you don’t know what you’re talking about faggot

Fair enough. That's cool if you happen to use a Mac. I don't, and will admit I didn't look into non PC compatible options. Most folks don't have Macs, but I'll keep on mind that sidecar is an option for those who do.

As someone without a Mac, I sure as shot wasn't gonna get one in addition to an iPad just so I can use desktop apps with the iPad, so having a PC, a Galxaxy Tab seems like the better choice of you wanna use it as a pen display.

Easy canvas for the iPad is a one time $10 like Super Display on Android. Why do all of you selectively read only stupid things in the tablet thread ffs.

>> No.5047947

>>5046495
I wish, Microsoft is preferable to every big player in the art space but it'll never happen. They don't care about the tiny consumer base that wants to make art, they want the average student who takes notes at university.

>> No.5048105

>>5047393
An anon already said that that particular feature had way too much latency to be usable. So stick with Android or an actual tablet.

>> No.5048132

>>5047808
Easy canvas also has terribad reviews for latency so I'd stay away unless someone confirms it works as well as the android tablets. The fact that there are so many people who end up buying a second tablet because the ipad doesn't cut it speaks volumes and an anon warned that sidecar or whatever it's called has too much latency. The last time I touched ipads all of them used super laggy VNC to screen mirror on windows resulting in some seriously shit performance.

Meanwhile, a large number of anons recently got galaxy tabs and were happy but the screen size is not very big. Honestly, you should 100% be looking for perfect screen mirroring. All the interesting applications are on PC and anyone who hates procreate will hate ipads unless you guys have an application that turns it into a cintiq with no lag and after a lot of digging I haven't seen any good ones except subscription software.

>> No.5048310

>>5047808
You were talking about natively. If you mean with an additional app, I already acknowledged that
>>5046737
>Both Android and iPad have apps to use them as a pen display with a PC.

However, what I've read about Easy Canvas sounds worse than what I know from experience with SuperDisplay, but again, i don't have an iPad, so i haven't tested it personally. If that works well, great.

honestly pretty based. iPad is overpriced and a wacom with a screen is not portable.

i hope it comes well. More real competition is better for us, more competitive prices and high quality.

The Spen of Samsung is already perfect but the problem is the software. I hope that with the arrival of CSP the level will go up little by little. Also we have to take a look on Krita, which will obviously go little by little, but could eventually be a serious alternative in some years.
