God yes, but its such a farfetched dream that I don't think its possible
I feel extremely suicidal and depressed due to various circumstances and events that has happened to me over the years (not going into details). However, I can't kill myself because it would crush my grandparents and my sister who already have lost someone very close to them recently. So I'm forced to just endure the pain and misery.
I pray to god every day that I might die in my sleep, that my heart just stops for some reason.

Not really. I get to work on anime for a living currently, with good pay and benefits. It's a fun job. I work on my own art in my own time and I feel that I enjoy it more that way. I have an art degree which almost feels like a waste, but I got my job through connections I made at school and video skills I learned there. Sure I'd definitely welcome the idea but I also don't mind not making money from my art. I've long come to terms to the impracticality of me making a living off of art and honestly, this isn't the reason why I started drawing in the first place.
I draw whatever makes me happy and I have fun doing it, its nothing more than a fun hobby for me.
I really do admire the anons that dropped everything to attempt a living off of art; However, I'm not as brave as some of you and the risk of derailing my future is way too great for me to even think about taking the risk.

>I really, really want to. I enjoy making art and I've had people say I'm high int lvl. I've been encouraged to make a portfolio and market myself more. I'm just really fucking tired all the time. since 'rona started, I've been working 5-6 days a week.

I am really introverted by nature and prefer to spend my time and days alone drawing and not talking. But I know it's not socially acceptable to say you 'don't like talking" so I put on a show. Because of this, I end up dealing with customers all day. People will always compliment me on how fun and happy I am while I take their order but it's all a farce because it leaves when they pull away.

I genuinely feel like I'm developing some form of psychosis from this. I never feel like I'm myself and its leaching into my personal life. I asked to be put in another position and get ignored. As soon as I finish paying off my student loan and bank some money, I'm quitting and becoming a Neet for a year. If I don't make it in that year, I'm going to an hero. Fast food should only ever be for teens making spare cash, People who are married to someone making the real money, or imbeciles. And since I'm not a teen and not married, I'm an imbecile. I'd rather die than be an imbecile

I'd post work but I don't want my art to be connected to this post. this shithole is one of the only places I feel I can be genuine. I don't want this to spread onto my social. If for some reason you read this and are in a better position than me. Good. Keep going anons. I'm just gonna become a cautionary tale

You know anon, sometimes when someone compliments you, it's in the hopes that it will carry you through the rest of the day. (Some) people understand anon. And from experience they tend to be the types to want you to not waste a second worrying. About anything. You are no cautionary tale, so long as you keep stepping up to the plate in the morning. Happiness is a state of mind, point of view etc etc blah blah whatever. Point is, you'll be disappointed to find that even supposing everything goes well, that it's akin to trying to solve a problem by soothing its symptoms. It works quite well; until it doesn't. I'd preach more, but people don't like to think, and I can't force anyone to. You can always make the decision to think, though. Question yourself, then answer. A slow but sure process.

Big no. Sounds good, but I get quickly burned out drawing something I don't want to draw and this is your whole job then unless you mean becoming a mangaka and publishing your own story. In that case, I plan on finishing at least one of my few stories once and upload it on some page that gets you a bit of money, aside from that I continue drawing fanart I love to draw.

I'm just so tired anon. It takes so much energy. I don't hate the people coming through and I appreciate them saying encouraging things, it's better than being screamed at after all. When I finish the day I usually just fall asleep, and then fuck up my sleep schedule because of it. No matter how much caffeine or nicotine I have in my system, I can't seem to medicate myself enough to find the energy to do anything constructive with my time. I just keep watching documentaries and tutorials so at least I can feel a little productive even though I'm not. The optimist in me says "book your time better, make sure you're getting good enough sleep, exercise, eat well keep trying to get out" But every day brings a new flavor of hell

I remember reading somewhere that, more often than not, depression is caused by a lack of agency in one's life. I can absolutely agree. I don't feel in control, but I don't feel like I'm on autopilot either because I can't just let my lower brain take control and clock out mentally

>>5054358
I know about the hedonic treadmill and the story of Sisyphus. Art is the boulder that I enjoy carrying the most. Small, frequent wins are the best way to generate happiness and momentum. I can't seem to get that first win to gain momentum. I pick up the pen and the weight of the unfinished wip makes me want to put it back down and just doodle aimlessly, something that doesn't help me in the long run.

It's most likely that this step is just a phase bound to pass. It's just been 2 months of struggling and it feels like I'm at a point where something needs to change before I either drop the job all together and go into financial ruin or I snap

>>5054360
I mean, thanks anon. I'd usually just be posting art without captions or tags for the joy of it. I'm always more interested in art accounts that post just art, you know? Normies want more of a cult of personality thing though. Cheers

Currently, no job. Lost it a while ago and then COOF happened. I pay my bills via graphic design/illustration commissions.

I'd like to, but I know I'm basically just scraping by until something real happens, IE: Either I can finagle a real ongoing job or project that helps me improve my skills, or I can ramp up my demand and commission prices. But I'm also generally shit and also not really good at just sitting down and working for 8+ hours a day, so that might never happen.

fuck no. last thing i want is to turn a passion of mine into wage labor. even a job you enjoy is still a job at the end of the day, and if that job was connected to my passion, then there would be no mental disconnect, and id have to make trade offs and such not based on my own desire or decision but that of others, either my boss or people i was appeasing to in general

nothing wrong with art being something you enjoy doing and not your job or career. weird as fuck to me the amount of people that associate their identity with their job and if they dont have that they try to align it. idk about other people but i want my job to stay at my job and be completely detached from what i do at home

in value-oriented capitalism, people place a disproportionate amount of importance on the ability to create fiscal value from everything, and if you can't do that, it must be pointless. it's personally one of the biggest reasons why we need to dismantle this system, the others being the broken methods of distributing all that wealth and the inability to ethically participate in a capitalist society.

Idk about my job, but I'd love to have a small studio or something to do my shit in, making money would be cool and all but I'm still super hesitant to call myself an artist because idk if I deserve that title yet. Like I've been drawing since middle school, used to copy out a shitty westernized paperback how to draw manga book. Now I'm struggling still with the figure and faces but I'm getting better even if it's stylized mostly.
Pic related is a two or three hour shitty self portrait painting from today, first time I painted myself since 2018, just acrylic but I want to get into painting finally since I've been a paper-pencil person forever. Looks like shit but I'm trying to get more confident with the impurities of my face.

Probably. I recently graduated from art school but am taking a year (or 2) long break. 2.In process of dropping out of CS course and taking time to make a portfolio for design school, got a corporate drone job lined up in the meantime
3.IDK, I dabble in so many things like art, music and fashion so it’s tough
Btw, here’s a little shitpost drawing I made in few minutes out of boredom:=)

You don't need art school to do art as a career
I too have no formal education, and that applies to a lot of people I work with. Nobody cares about papers

I don't want it to be my only source of income, so no. I would like to have some semblance of an income with it though. Sadly, I'm not good enough for commissions and have 0 following.

The only way that I can is to do it on the internet entirely. There's no hope for me in the industry.

With my current expenses I can live off of $700 a month. If I can make that much on art then I am living the dream. I have about a year until I run out to get good enough to make that. Failing that a part time job working three 8-hour shifts can still pay rent, but I'd rather not have to resort to retail work again. That's assuming I can get a job quick enough to not end up homeless.

I've given up everything else. Friends, family, hometown. All for one purpose. I don't even care anymore if this path leads straight to hell. I will maximize my potential and grind intensively to reach my goal.

To an extent it is already, but I'm really enjoying drawing as a (serious) hobby and hesitate to make it my job. I'm mostly scared of ruining my passion by turning it into my work, and working in entertainment production builds up a lot of useful skills as is.

>I'm a published poet in a major journal, and I frequently read and write on the job. For the past 2+ years I've had a new job with lots of office privacy and can often read and write for half the workday or more. Not to mention since quarantine, I've been working half-days in person which in reality works out to 2.5 hours at the facility. The rest of the time I'm available remotely and write/read at home with my wife or do other things.
>In a bit of a holding pattern right now as I haven't gotten anything published in the last few months and have a new version of a book manuscript I've submitted to many contests. But poetry publishing is generally a grind and I'm submitting poem samples to many quality magazines as always and hopefully get another break soon. Also working to learn new styles and fiddling with some prose which is not my usual.
