Looks really cool, I like your style a lot. The face in particular is super appealing, the hatching describes the form well without being too messy or cluttering up the features. I think if the rest of the body was given the same sort of treatment, it would help out a lot. Right now the hatching is a little imprecise, especially on the arms, which makes some parts look mushy or lumpy.
I did a small redline for proportions too. I think adding some meat to the neck would help fill out the torso a little more, giving him a full-bodied muscular look. I may have overdone it a little bit, he's sort of just a fish-headed bodybuilder now, so take from it what you will lol. I also wouldn't simplify the muscles quite as much as I have here since I think some of the charm in your drawing comes from all the fine details, but I hope it helps illustrate one way you might group them up so that they're more readable. I posted this earlier but I think 4chan ate my post, sorry if this shows up twice

This is a brilliant crit.
I was thinking of re-drawing him to be a bit less lean. He's a swimmer so I'm aiming for a sort of michael phelps type. With very built arms and a thinner torso. So I might bulk him out half way and see how it looks.
As for having the arms be lumpy, that's kind of what I was aiming it, with those thick cords of muscle that make up the forearm, but I can see where that loses appeal.
I'll try a re-draw with some muscle piled on but less focus on heavy detail, like the face.

I'll sketch out some more gestural stuff to see if I can get closer and post.

On this one though, I was going to overpaint in photoshop and by doing so obscure some of the details. I'll post that here with his form mostly the same and see if that helps in your opinions?

So I've adjusted the proportions of this first drawing and done an overpaint in Photoshop.
I think some of the colour helps ease the harshesness of the linework that might've been too strong before.

I'm not really sure I would consider Russian works as "eastern" for art purposes. They're generally part of the western furry art sphere. Kemono is something that's mostly limited to Japan and to a lesser degree Taiwan.

What you're describing is just modern furry art in general. As we've put some distance between us and the 90s, the toonier Warner Bros. and Disney styles have fallen relatively out of vogue.

Yeah, I figured I worded it wrong. I wasn't really sure how I wanted to describe the style, and calling them "anime-inspired" furries probably wouldn't have been any better.

I'd agree. Though, while I'm far from knowledgeable in this field, I'd say there's still a decent amount of artists that broadly go for a western/post Disney-inspired era/cartoony style with big, round heads, large, cutesy eyes and etc, especially with the popularity of Zootopia. Sort of like the stuff this artist (picture related) does in this thread. Don't get me wrong I don't dislike these drawings, nor do I dislike this broad style too, but I guess I sort of like the idea of reaching a degree of "realism" that can be attained by merging some of the design appeal in "eastern" works without going full kemono either.

I guess I should come clean and admit I'm a bit of a poser. I'm very interested in drawing humans too, so forgive me if there's a purist mentality here. I suppose I'm trying to grasp a style that lets me draw humans realistically stylized to sate my weeb desires *and* anthros when I'm in the mood for furry waifus too.

For me it's mostly the way it's rendered, the airbrushing in the hair looks glossy almost as if he's made of glass, also the fact that there's only like one value in the shadow under his jaw, with no blending or any halftones/midtones added in. The thick linework and lack of line variation doesn't help much either.

This being said, I wouldn't say I hate it. Just that I find it somewhat unappealing, i've seen way worst artstyles before.

This. It's an overused style making up the majority of "good" furry art(good in the sense of not being mspaint back-page-of-deviantart garbage.) So much of furry art all looks like it was drawn by the same few people, similar to a lot of manga/anime art, leading to a fatigue of it. That late 90's era disney cartoon style has oversaturated all things furry for years. It's not bad quality, just overdone.

Personally, though, I hate when characters or creatures with fur are shaded in a way that makes them look shiny or oily. Fur doesn't reflect light like smooth surfaces, but that's just my own autistic nitpicking(and if you want something done right, do it yourself.)

I think most of the drawing works well, there's just a few small proportional things which add up to make the figure look a bit wonky. I did a redline which I hope helps. Mostly I feel that the body is sort of squished and flat, so I added some mass to the character's back and hips to help fill it out a bit. Proportionally, the arm on the right seems shorter and thicker than the one on the left I think. Drawing in a few creases and folds to the clothing would help add some interest too, especially in pinched areas like the bent elbows and around the waist.
This is super subjective, but I did a draw over for the face too to try and bring in a little more appeal. It's mostly just shifting the placements of the features around a bit, bringing the nose further forward helps give the impression of a small snout and bringing the mouth up makes her feel less long in the face. I think fleshing out the cheek would help make the face look more conventionally cute too. On the right, I tried doing a more modern anime/kemono type of style, where instead of bringing the features up to meet the eyes I brought all the features down to the lower half of the face. That just comes down to a difference of style though. Let me know what you think

Your subject matter is uninteresting and lacks depth (how many "thug" images do you have there where it's the same exact patterned boxers with the same exact cut pants and no shirt?), you put weird filters over the image that destroy the clarity, your titles don't have any keywords that would commonly be used in a search, and honestly the images look unfinished.
FA doesn't have any recommendation algorithm which means the only way you get seen is by
A) Posting art that people want to click on at high traffic hours, and posting frequently
B) Having somebody else boost your page
or

Here's how I (a schizo) do it:
1: start drawing animals/animal people/fantasy creatures. go (somewhat loosely) by references if you want.
2: Do a bunch of these drawings until one of them jumps out at you. It's probably going to look (at least slightly) different from the photo/drawing you're cribbing from.
3: Obsess unhealthily about that character over the course of a few days. Start with a name and a bit of a personality, and refine their traits from there. While that's going on, also think about defining physical features, such as markings, coloration, etc. Keep thinking about this stuff, and don't draw them again yet.
4: A week or so later, draw the character a few times, taking all the brainstorming into account. The result is probably going to look drastically different from the first drawing that spawned them. Don't be afraid to change stuff on the fly either, just follow your heart.
5: Spend some more time drawing the character doing stuff, talking to people, running, playing games (maybe even fugging, scandalous!), etc. At this stage their features and personality are a bit like wet cement. The more you play around with them and work them, the more solid the character becomes. Eventually it'll solidify and you can't really conceptualize them any differently anymore.

A lot of furry OC design boils down to general design philosophy. The only difference is that it's an animal person, which gives you even more creative freedom than usual.

1) Start with the theme you want for your character. Something you want the design to scream when someone looks at it. It can be their occupation, a fetish, their hobby, a personality trait, whatever.

2) Pick an animal. Preferably you want an animal that compliments the theme (ie big animals for tough/manly themes, small animals for intellectual/devious themes, fanciful animals for noble/flamboyant themes...just ideas not guidelines or anything) but ultimately it's your decision. And yes, there's nothing wrong using an overused species, so long as the design is good.

3) Construct your character's build. A very important part. How your character looks from a glance will help them stand out and make them more recognizable. A character's build should also compliment the theme of the character. Use shapes to build it up. Draw multiple versions and pick the one you like the most.

4) Design your character's appearance and their "default" outfit, if any. Contrary to popular belief, your character doesn't need to be covered in markings to stand out. A combination of the character's theme, build and outfit will sell them to the audience. That's not to say you shouldn't use any markings at all. Use enough to fit the animal but not so much that it over complicates the design. You can potentially have your character's markings go with their theme, strengthening the design even more (ex a pirate character having a black fur marking over their eye instead of an eyepatch). In the case of a character who is usually naked, you can use "natural" accessories like large patches of fur or feathers to give them an "outfit", or even go deeper with their markings to give the illusion of clothing, like having their lower leg fur a darker color to give the feel of long boots, for instance.

This is gonna sound really stupid, but how do you guys construct heads with a very prominent brow ridge? I always start with a sphere and try to place the features on it, but it always fucks up if the character has a prominent brow or other features that protrude way further than the sphere (snout not included)

I plan to infiltrate a furry community early next year and I need some advice on drawing furries. Anything I should know about besides the resources in the header?

Most furries don't like flat human-esque faces that you might be used to - learn to draw animal heads and learn to draw efficient fluff. A good anthro head silhouette should not appear overly round, bringing out the nape of the neck as in pic related can help. The places to focus your anthropomorphism are the eyes and the expressiveness of the mouth. Study how to properly connect tails to the spine and butt, learn to work the tail as an element in the composition to fill voids. Learn correct genital anatomy if you plan on doing knots and stuff.

Really just study animal heads, study high tier furry artists, analyze how they anthropomorphize, you'll be on your way. I will warn that it's usually easy to tell when an artist is not interested in the content they draw and if you don't enjoy furry stuff yourself you'll have a harder time naturally tapping into what people like about it.
