I study this guy Michelangelo, his online courses are pretty good.

>> No.5040876

its pretty straight forward. if you will sculpt figs then youll have to study anatomy on paper as well. most other information would be on tools and techniques and procedure like how to scale a model, and the resources from what little i know tend to be more specific to the material, such as wood, clay, wax, marble, bronze. which as you can see all fall under sculpture yet the methods and tools vary. so you will have to be more specific.

Honestly I'm just starting out in terms of trad sculpting so I don't even know what medium. But honestly whatever medium is the easiest for beginners. So obviously not marble, probably oil plastalina or terracotta??

clay is the best for begs

anyone have [exp] with beeswax based sculpting? i want to make figures that i can reference from, not necessarily bring to detailed perfection.

i hate the feel of oil clay, but maybe it is just the brand that i used. and it does not crack like clay and i dont have to keep using water or solvents on it as i work it seems

anyone has any books and/or courses to recommended to someone who never sculpted before? really basic stuff

There are sculpting courses on NMA. Not sure how good they are, but they're pretty in-depth.

>> No.5041314

there is overlap of skills between drawing and sculpting
so things like vilppu et al and general bg in drawing would actually be useful too

Just imagine working on a massive marble sculpture. You've been at it for months, slowly chipping away at the hideously expensive block of stone. Soon the nose is done on your master piece, but as you strike a soft and confident strike to remove the last little spot of left over marble to finish it a crack spreads across the head and the nose falls to the ground with a sharp crash. The crack in the material have ruined the integrity of the form and from now every strike you make could be the last as the crack expands more and more beneath the surface leaving you in constant paranoia as the doomsday clock keeps ticking down.

It's cool but no thanks

God that sounds like haven, there is a reason why Michelangelo said that sculpture is the best form of art, and oil painting womanly

it sounds like self harm my man. Not only are mistakes unfixable, but there's a risk of shit cracking and randomly trash your efforts. Failing a massive oil painting is unfixable enough by most standards if you fuck it up.

Imagine being this much of a digicuck, I'd understand if it was drawing/painting, but for sculpting? The medium that has the advantage of being 3D, you want to do it on a 2d screen? Fucking kek man

>> No.5042143

very funny anons, but does anyone actually have any resources

I recently started sculpting in clay and got wonderful tools for 15 bucks, read anatomy for sculptors by uldis zarins
>>5041616
Sculpting in 3d is less messier than traditional and its easier to fix mistakes, plus its more precise, although real sculpting is more intuitive and has that traditional look and tangibility 3d doesnt. With 3d tho you can print or sell the design

Sculpting something with mass and texture in your hands is a fundamentally different mental exercise than pressing a button and getting any shape you want instantly on a screen
