If you go back and tell your younger self advice on drawing. What would you tell them?
What mistakes would you tell them to avoid?
What would you tell them to focus on?

1. Don't try to be original. Just copy all the styles you like and eventually you'll form your own unique style

2. DO NOT COPY ANIME. I REPEAT DO NOT COPY ANIME

Don't listen to others. Copy, use references and draw whatever you like even if that means not being "original". And keep drawing these little comics even if you have no one to share with. And also ; yes learning the human bones is important. Way more than you think.

Do not put any trust in anonymous people on a north korean bamboo blade forum. Do not befriend people on said forum by opening up to them/art friends. Do not join any sub-communities on said forum. Do not try to make the forum a better place just because you spent years there. Grab the resources on the forum and stay away /ic/, you can hang out on any other board, though. Do not vent on Twitter. Stay away from social media. Post your journey on a small traditional style forum.

Do not give advice if you're a /beg/ retard. Do not try to redline if you're a beg retard. Do not try to immediately apply what you just learned 3 seconds ago to a """finished""" piece that takes you 5 days to finish. Do not juggle 6 courses at once. Do not share resources with other people who you don't know. Do not look at other people as competition. Use a timer app; make it an extension of your body and never draw less than 2 hours per day. Don't watch speedpaint videos, don't watch twitch streamers, don't idolize other artists. For no reason at all should you join discords made off /ic/ EVER. No groups, nothing. Stay away.

Drink plenty of water. Do not skip your fundamentals. Do not use anonymous fundamental guides or guides made by other artists. Do not use tutorials that promise the moon and the galaxy such as "from beginner to advanced". Do not look for fancy brushes. Use photoshop. Do not buy chinese tablets. Do not make new years resolutions related to drawing. Take breaks.

I decided on posting to a forum. It's lonely posting to a blog and it's depressing posting to twitter/DA because I post my work then I just end up retweeting work far superior to mine which makes me feel like shit. Need an environment where everyone has a common goal and isn't /ic/ founded. Even if it's just a few eyes looking at my progress, that's much better than getting likes or posting among good artists.
>Use photoshop
I mean don't be afraid of using photoshop. I don't know why I had a longtime fear when I was younger using it. I like CSP more.

All I can find when I search for forums is incredibly cringeworthy gatherings of boomers or children who draw the most generic normie art like portraits of dogs, is that what you draw?

>work smarter, and work less.
define the areas in which you want to improve in, and make a plan to address it, don't just study blindly and tire yourself out. schedule things and get stuff done and feel good about it

>focus on your personal goals
don't worry about social media or what others are doing, just keep yourself on task. you'll get tired easily if you get sucked into the flow of trends and art communities.

>don't hoard resources
you won't need a resource until you know you need it. you can put off looking for things until then.

>study form extensively
once you understand form you will have an easier time dealing with everything else. it's not super necessary though professionally, color theory and design skills are more important.

>focus on having fun drawing
as long as you try to have fun drawing things, you will naturally experience opportunities to grow both as an artist and as a person.

>surround yourself with happy people
don't focus on trying to make "art friends," just try to make good ones and keep those people in your life.

Much better to save up for the Apple iPad Pro 12.9, instead of being stuck on an inferior, utterly mediocre tool made by something else.
The Apple iPad Pro 12.9 is by far the objectively greatest purchase any artist could make.
