I'm trying to create 2d mesh deformation animation in a game engine. Basically cut-out animation with deformation. Is there an art program or a workflow that would make it particularly easy to create the "cut-out" pieces? Currently I'm looking into drawing each segment of my character onto it's own layer in krita, and exporting each layer as a separate file. I'd be happy to see any resources/ pointers you might have as to how to go about doing this.

My animation has:
>Music
2 songs made by my friend.
>SFX
Downloaded from various freesound profiles, some packs from blogs, overall very varied sources.
>Voice-acting
Recorded with a Snowball.
There is no real speech, only things like "ohh" and "aah" and sighs, grumbling, etc.

I have NO FUCKING IDEA what (or even IF) I'm supposed to do with the audio. I have looked into some very basic mastering/mixing videos, but still trying to understand.

>So, just volume?
Yeah, everything else is extra. Relative volumes being out of whack is the thing that people might actually notice. Things like eq or subtle reverb on the master bus will indeed tie things together and make for a more uniform sound, but it really isn't necessary.

What might be a good idea though, would be to download and learn a bit of Audacity. It will let you cut up and layer sounds, and apply things like fades and pitch shifting. This kind of editing (sound design) will let you make things sound the way you want instead of just using sounds you download as they are. It will be a much more powerful tool for better sound effects than just applying effects or mastering. If nothing else, you can use the "normalize" effect to bring the sounds you've downloaded all to a similar volume level, if some are much more quiet than others.

Well I kinda agree that some part was rough, but it had to be done because he is working alone. Also he was apologizing so many times for being slow and kept delaying the MV, but to think this guy who just started animating not long time ago, and he only used iPad Pro, he really did a good job. From what I remember in Yasuo Muroi's interview/discussion with Komugiko, he started interested in animation after watching Kimi no na wa, he made it big with his own distinctive style which is incredible though.

>Also, was komugiko not credited in the video??
He was credited in end roll credit.

Honestly I'm not sure I see the point of using this if you're already used to whatever program/hardware you're using (that supports animation).
For example I'm on iPad and I can already do animation fine there. I don't see why I'd go through the hassle of learning another desktop program to potentially make an anime in the future.

Why do shot 1 and 4 look worse than shots 2 and 3?
They're all puppet animated, and the only thing I can garner from Parker is that it's because they had extra time to redo these shots.

>> No.5042818

For one, they were animated by different people. The artists who worked on the better shots are probably better animators than the artists who worked on the worse shots, or one of the animators was having a good/bad week when they worked on their shots. The third shot especially has a lot of redraw and the animator deforms the rig creatively to make it smoother.

Should be a little more clear this time around.

She's steadying herself on one hand and using her foot to push off the ground. Thinking of removing some of the frames in the middle, and replacing those with frames that cushion the two keys where her arms and limbs overlap.

The scene is that she's struggling to fit in with Imperial society, and this particular episode happens after some local girls bully her for being a dark elf. I was wondering if this scene in it's rough stages captured that, and if not, how I can improve the storytelling.

Fialni, her older half-sister who is much more versed in understanding Imperial society and the tribes that make it, is calling out to her. telling that it will be alright. Shirri does not want to listen; in Shirri's eyes, it's just too much for her to deal with.

>> No.5061333

>>5060788
I work with a lot of people who graduated from Capilano. I don't know exactly what goes into the program, but their work is consistently very good coming out of it. Many of the graduates get hired straight out of college, especially since Vancouver has like half the animation jobs in Canada. The class sizes are also pretty small I think, so you get a pretty tight knit group of hard working artists. I'd recommend it if you're thinking about applying

how do i get over missing out on a drawing class with Ralph Bashi?

a while back in April i got an email from Bakshi's office website about how he was having an online class for a believe $35

I was so exited that i bought some new drawing equipment like a note pad and some pencils

but when the day finally came i never received the zoom code until it was too late
they later refunded my money but i'm still bummed out about it since he’s probably gonna die in a few years since he’s already a dinosaur now and i missed my one chance to learn from my idol

has anyone here had similar experiences of missing out on stuff?

Anyone else get annoyed that they are commonly called "timing charts" when they are showing the spacing?
Neither Illusion of Life, Animators Survival Kit or Character Animation Crash Course call them timing charts.

on one of those charts, two hashmarks close to each other are the same time apart as two hashmarks far away from each other - each hashmark is 1 frame at whatever the framerate is which is usually 24.
What varies is the physical location/spacing of something on the page.

Would would you call this style of animation?
It's definitely some variety of rotoscoping, but I don't think it's accurate to call it just that since 90% of the frames seem like something generated with EbSynth. AI-assisted rotoscoping?

Pretty solid, it could be sped up a bit I think. The pushup works really well, but his hands come up off the ground before his feet touch the ground after ward, I think they should stay planted until his feet are on the floor to support himself. His elbows also go from being straight to being bent and then back to being straight again which looks awkward. It looks like they're just trying to conform to an IK/FK handle or whatever. For your first animation this is a really good start, mostly it just needs a bit of tightening.

Thanks anon. I ran into a billion issues with the rig itself, like the chain of parents from Hip> chest > shoulder > elbow > being disordered. And yes, the IK handles were getting outstretched and I didn't know how to fix it. I prayed to the gods of interpolation presets to help in some spots.

it looks really slow and floaty, the keys look good but you need a lot more of timing work, there is a lack of ease in and ease out. I would recommend you taking a video acting the animation and studying the timing there.

Still a beginner at animation.

I'm wondering if I'm doing well to challenge myself with these complex movements/perspective, or if I should just use more side views.

I'm having a hard time figuring proportions, and the under drawings take so long and are so sketchy I get discouraged from actually cleaning it up.

Getting there slowly though. This thread is great and some of you have good work.
