I don't know about always. I wouldn't consider Murata's Spider-Man soulful, though it is technically brilliant. Nihei's Wolverine isn't very soulful either.

Bengus' style pretty much shaped Capcom's art style from SF2 and onwards. Kinu Nishumura is a close second for me in terms of style with Edayan and Akiman rounding off the list.

This stuff was drawn in pencil, scanned, then colored with a mouse in Photoshop.

It's rare to see japanese artists with this level of anatomy knowledge.

This is more equivalent to the american comics, it was done by Bengus when he was inspired by the Jim Lee X-Men comics from the early 90s

He's kind of adapted his style a bit but it's still fairly similar to the stuff he did in the 90s. Super bulky figures, stiff and statuesque posing, the facial proportions, strong chiaroscuro lighting with sharp dithering at the edges, etc. It all harkens back to a style he helped popularize in the 90s. I think the style is not quite as visible in the drawing I posted because he inked it himself and tends to be a bit looser in those drawings which works to his benefit. He throws around ink, hatches large areas quickly and gets creative with white out. For his official comic pencils though, the style is a bit more evident. It's still good on a technical level but looks kinda dated imo.

because most of the time, in either of the big houses the people who draw the comics have no real love for the characters, they just do this for a paycheck, so they give as little fucks as possible, they try to fill the positions with people with like the characters, or at least say they do, but that doesn't always happen.
