Have two portfolio projects, find a stable art job in the first half of 2021 that does not involve hoping for the occasional commission, making a few short comics to practice sequential arts and get really good at human anatomy. I'm financially very unstable, but I think I'm slowly getting to a point where I can built a little trust in my abilities and rely on reoccuring productive spurts. I wanna stop taking random illustration commissions, since I prefer drawing and designing over rendering. I'd like to make this the year where I really take my draftsmanship to the next level, and focus on painting, values and texture again in 2022.

As for dad:

-Finish Portfolio Challenge
-Awetos Art book challenge
-Finish in top 3 EVERY month in houses for the whole year


General easy goals:

-Participate in at least one of the contests from Artstation or the websites Inno occasionally posts

-Finish at least 5 entries for the character design challenge in 2022

It's ambitious, but art is and was always gonna be my full-time job, and I feel like if I don't push myself to my limits I'm not gonna get as good as I want to be. I realised how much this field means to me, and I really want to be the best I can be in it. I've half-assed enough stuff in my life already.
I failed my 2020 goals really badly, but I still think I learned a lot and gained a lot of experience. The game gig I had with an indie company and two weeks of pre-visdev for an animated feature also taught me a ton professionally.

I'm really excited for the new year. I'm planning on really buckling down in December to get myself warmed up and try and build up new habits already. Portfolio challenge coming up should also be an incentive. I feel fucken' pumped, excited to see what the new year will bring for others as well. There's a couple of dads making really solid progress whom I'm excited to grow along with as well. Fires up the competitive spirit, and fosters a spirit of camaraderie somehow. Gl hf dads

I don't see the appeal in art jobs, and I don't understand what people find attractive about it. You either don't know or you're too young to realize how big of a mistake an art job is. First of all you are always working for someone and not for yourself, this instantly kills the artist. second, pressure, stress and pride will also kill you as an artist. third, working professionally puts learning at a halt. As an artist, the only full time job that's worth it, is when you can work for yourself, and set a schedule that you can work with, and not have deadlines.

Nothing else that interests me/no other skillset/I need money asap. In the long run I'd like to work on my own projects and stuff, but till I have some savings and experience it ain't viable yet. You can't. I did some professional concept work for awhile, and I left after a year. I left because it made me hate art every passing moment. It has less to do with the company, and all to due with myself. I wanted to work on my own things, and everyday I walk down the corridor I see people working on cool shit, I like the 3D department the most since they were working with the concept art side by side. We had to work a lot together to get the idea down. I hated working with most of the people there because they just don't understand some of the basic shit. It gets frustrating everyday to work with them. There was several occasions I had to do more work because people were slacking. I got in trouble of course because I can't be doing someones work. Eventually the projects got scrapped because deadlines weren't meant because of incompetent people. What bugged me the most is the shit I could have been working on. Even though I got some easy promotions like overlooking the work of other people and teaching since one of my employers sees a lot of potential in how I work with others, I still left because that's not my line of work. I moved back with my parents and they don't mind me since I help a lot anyways, so I get to draw all day and use whatever $$$ I saved up for emergencies food, bills ect.

draw with as much soul and emotion as possible. don't waste time with getting the details of hands and feet and faces right, as that's not really important to the gesture. color lineart with a soft brush and desaturated colors, don't worry about getting it in the lines or cleaning up edges. draw yellow skin. hope this helped

About the artbook sizing, 300 dpi translates to 300 pixels per inch
A4 is 3508 x 2480
12" by 18" posters are 3600 x 5400
But dad only supports sizes up to 3000x3000
So you can post a 50% scaled resolution for dad or save as a jpeg (I found it still let's me upload full size when I do this) But keep a full sized version in png and/or psd
You can also make your own dimensions, like a 24"x36" poster and scale and post. The smallest I would say you can go is 5"x7" because that's the smallest prints I've seen on sale. The dad artbook will probably be 9"x12". It's good practice for detail and quality to have this standard and assume everything is 300dpi resolution, or more if you want

When we do the final art book (if 20 people finish) I might have a google drive with a folder for each dad to upload which 5 pics you want to print and how you want to crop / resize them.

CMYK or RGB? Most printers can't render RGB colors. Perhaps you already told us in the challenge description.

You can draw in RGB, at the end there should be a way to preview in CMYK in photoshop (I havent tested other programs) and if it doesnt look good u can adjust the color balance and levels, the one for the printing should be CMYK, but you can use the RGB version for uploading

dont worry too much about it, the theory of traditional can be passed over to digital quite easily- its the muscle memory and technical skill that is difficult to pass.
if you just draw a lot you'll get the hang of it, and dont get discouraged because your art looks too different compared to your traditional skill level! its all a process and you need to give it time!

Right next to your color bars a /!\ sign appears to warn you if your tint will be different when printed in CMYK.

In the end, wrap up all your informations.
Everybody must give you a CMYK, 300dpi, 3626 x 5079 px, jpg or tiff document.

I think its probably best to have two versions, one for submitting and one for printing.

After some investigating, I think tiff is the best format to save your final image in, with the bleed, with the CMYK.
For submitting to the challenge, you can still submit what format and color you like, I think it's possible tiff might be too big for dad anyway

But when it comes time to print the anthology or your own artbook, that's format you should upload in the folder. .tiff, with bleed, and CMYK is what you want. A3 is probably better than 11 x 14, since its proportionate to A4 which will be easy to print full page.
