IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

1.-screenshot the image and post that instead

2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

3.-send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

So i was studying basically whole day.
On left some of my figures from morning and on right from now.
I think i'm starting to understand forms and space around them.
I can see that focusing mainly on gesture is more important than anything,
atleast thats my conclusion. Tommorow i will try to draw atleast 50 figures.

More of an intermediate artist here. I just need help with determining what needs to be rendered more on the lizard before I start working into background and foreground elements. I feel like the gold standard for a nice painterly render is something like Mike Azavedo's work (but I know that's way above my current skill tier).

Personally I'd say it's better to do it all in one go, especially if you're drawing from life when a model may not be in the exact same pose twice, but even if you're drawing from photos
it's a pretty nice habit to get less rendered gesture drawings done in one go so it can kind of train you for life drawing.

You have to learn proportions, basic perspective, line control, basic color theory, and basic anatomy, so realistically you would need about one year and a half, but it could easily be much more than that depending on how you study. We have anons here like Mikufag that have been drawing for several years now, and their art still looks very amateurish, so it's kind of hard to give a very accurate estimate.

Posting as anon doesn't really have any point to it since my watermark is on it

Most of the time, I just don't draw for months. Sometimes because of no inspiration, other times because I don't think I'm good enough.

I make 3D, Digital and Traditional artwork. The drawing posted is my personal best. The render posted is my most popular post.

Well it's unlikely that a head is going to be in the sort of perspective where you use a vanishing point. It would be so far off the page it's pointless. It's better to assume the perspective lines are parallel. So draw the lines out. And if that's the case then the eyes are basically the same size. The other thing you can do is you just wanna eyeball it is flip the canvas. It will just look wrong and you can adjust by intuition.

when you've got a cast shadow from something else, then you have two sets of shadows, one telling you the shape, and another just fucking about doing its own thing.

Wherever motivation comes from, it’s not “you” that creates it; you can’t consciously decide to become motivated. You can maybe make yourself *think* you’re motivated, but, unless you’re unaware to the point of mental impairment, sooner or later you will start to notice your indifference or aversion to improving. That said, there are things that might revamp your motivation, like seeing art you love, remembering why you wanted to draw/make art before you lost your motivation, drawing things you love to draw, etc. These are by no means fool-proof, and may not spark new motivation in you, but they’re some things I do when the time calls for it.

(you) actually trying to do your best despite failing miserably. example would be posting a finish piece with multitudes of flaws to address and give some insight in how to fix them later and posting a picture with more than one examples, ect like a screenshot of your latest figure drawing session or your attempts at drawing the human arm from different angles.

Talent means jack shit if you can't properly use it lol
beside it's not "talent" and more of your natural disposition to certain things in art, some people are naturally good at getting the hang of perspective, form, anatomy, rendering, ect you get the picture while others can make good composition and character designs.
this is a better definition of talent if you ask me.

They're shitpost that don't add anything because they're generalize.
if anon was asking how to paint a car in a daylight setting with overcast they'd get shitposted with "cgma" "how to render" when they don't even have a clue whats value or how hues work in correlation to what color the light is related to actually how strong of a light that it changes it.
I'm an advocate of "just draw" as ultimately painting/drawing it and analyzing the reference picture to what you did right or wrong will net you more than watching a video course that gives nothing but theory and some advice.

your anatomy and proportion is off. Even if you are stylizing you should make sure the drawing can "function". The body is leaning too forward, your shoulder area should be a little bigger for that bust. Don't be afraid to draw the hands and feet.

like the other anon said, when you're drawing muscles, you should be thinking of them as abstract cubes or cylinders wrapping around bigger spheres, cubes, cylinders, warped into their correct anatomical shape. Try going for 3/4 views, but also, run cross-contours over what you draw obsessively. Even the smallest details down to the eyelids SHOULD be thought of as cylinders. It'll fry your brain to think this way at first, but practice helps

read the book bro, and stop trying to put the anatomy over your flawed sketch. this is wrong and will not be right because you don't understand the shape of a body

copy as many images from the book as you can, then try again with another sketch in like a week

it's better. of course you don't know what they should look like because you haven't studied them. trying to draw the full figure anatomically correct as a beginner, you're going to end up guessing at most of this stuff no matter what. try to break things down. what does a deltoid look like by itself for example. which muscles can be simplified together as larger masses? how do bodyparts wedge into eachother. where do individual muscles connect to the bones. how do muscles change form in different flexions? artist spent their whole lives learning this.

also, abs are not important for building the figure. you should focus your attentien towards the pelvis, rib cage and head in the beginning and do timed figure drawing exercises for the full figure. learning how to draw abs is meaningless if the underlying structure is flawed.

Just posting my daily figure drawing out of ritual by now I guess.
I started this when I was kindly told by anon I am unable to capture a natural-looking pose. I think I'm slowly learning how to do that and that it's time to add some variety in my studying.
Before going deep into human anatomy, I'm thinking I'll take a small detour in fabrics just to clear my head of all the muscles... but perhaps it would pay to go to in-depth anatomy now that I have figure drawing in my head fresh? Or does it not matter?
