IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

1.-screenshot the image and post that instead

2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

3.-send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

i didn't say trace, after a few months of working at it, you should be able to draw what you see if you take your time and aren't a bitch about using tools.
also disagree about there being any value in a random shitter's beethoven rendition, and certainly zero value in their rendition a few months in.

IDK what the others are talking about, there's ton of quality stuff on youtube. I guess the thing is that unlike music there's variation to methods and approaches, with some being potentially less productive than others.

Anyway just youtube Alphonso Dunn (or something like that), he's the one that made most sense to me

>playing a chord or note cleanly = line confidence
>a song is just the exact correct series of chords and notes played in the right order = drawing correctly
>anatomy is like keeping time, if you can’t even 4/4 what the fuck are you doing
All these things take time. If you were given a guitar since birth it would be far easier to play a cowboy song than to draw anime and if your youth was spent scribbling it’s far easier to draw anime than to play jerry Jeff walker. Neither is hard. Both take skill sets and time. Both can be done wi the a unique style, but fundamentals are always the most important.

it's a knotted mess and frankly nobody is going to be able to notice if you fuck them up because of how much they can vary.

but they split up to fit around triceps which is one. the overall shape of the scapula creates another because they wrap across the bottom edge. and it's not in this pic but the lats sit on top of their bottom half and they slide out from underneath as the arm moves which creates another of wildly varying position and size.

Thanks for going the extra mile with this help. I think i struggle the most with legs on this piece. I never had a problem with proportion until now when I tried to draw something that wasnt the average human height.
I think tomorrow Ill try to do a nude sketch to see if I can get the anatomy proper on something 4 1/2 heads tall. I still had a blast drawing this even with all the mistakes I made.

Also, I had the idea that underneath her thick padded jacket you really wouldnt be able to see curves, so I omitted them. But like I said Ill see tomorrow if I can actually draw them. Thanks again

Cmon. try drawing something you think is cool. If you constantly grind youre gonna burn out, and burn out hard. Getting good isnt a race, this is a hobby. And even if you want to make it professionally you are CLOSE the point to work nonstop. Slow down, think about something you like. Video game characters, anime, shitty memes, nature, your dog, big fucking titties, literally any idea you have in your brain and draw it. Break up your grinding with these fun explorations into creativity and it'll make your time much more enjoyable. Even if it looks like shit, you had fun, and definitely learned.

I can tell you about Vilppu... nobody believes me but he teaches drawing really differently from everyone else. There are principles to construction... overlap, corners, cross-contours, etc. that have to be consciously studied. You can't just tell someone to draw with form, you have to show them the mechanics of drawing with form, and that's what Vilppu focuses on. Go for his video lectures, they're more clear than his book, but his book is sufficient if you're willing to copy every drawing and spend a lot of time on it.

For the longest time I studied mainly Mike Mattesi and Walt Stanchfield, and they don't cover any of the above at all. I improved so slowly because I kept thinking I was past the basics.

>rib
How to art books don't really stress this well enough.
Women and men have completely differently shaped ribcages. The ribcages of women are narrower and extend slightly into the waist. Compared to the male counterpart, it's as if they're closed at the bottom, with the poky parts that are almost a hand's length apart from each other in a male instead forming that tight feminine diamond shape.

There's obviously lots of other things you'll need to keep in mind but this one isn't that obvious despite being rather important.

>> No.5005196

You are learning nothing from doing this. Deconstruct the pose into basic 3D forms, i.e. cylinders for arm and legs and boxes for ribcage and pelvis. Then try and recreate the pose out of those basic 3D forms from other angles.
