Most scans are hosted on internet archive because it's free scanning and its one of the reasons scanning has taken off in recent years. That and baidu. That's a guy who is scanning Neo-Geo Freak and Gamest magazines. Now if someone complains then sure but what's the chance a company is gonna care about 25 year old magazine scans?

There's tons of mysterious chinese scanner groups and only a few have been tracked down to their original forums. There's at least one group that I know of that scans retro Japanese strategy gudies, and the weibo girl scans game/anime books from the 2005 onwards. No one's scanning anime mags/books from the 80's or 90's though. They use baidu and are making money from the downloads and seem to make a decent profit. Because of that they don't bother with genuinely rare or expensive material as that would be unpforitable.

The American-Euro scanners operate more in the open and use the internet archive or retro magazine sites but either do it for free or gain money from patreon. They are mostly gamers and don't scan anime books, even western anime magazines. I wish more anime material was scanned since I'm more into anime than games, which I haven't touched for years.

I bought it from a reseller in Korea. It's definitely great but I'm not willing to cut it up to scan it. A digital version is available on the Lezhin website for (I think) cheaper than the hardcopy if someone is feeling froggy. It's VERY long and you don't need to understand the text to get the most out of it (but if you need to just point the camera at it with the Google Translate app and real time translate it on your phone).

The best method I found involves using the terminal. It will give you the original images embedded in your PDF without recompression.

There is a software package called Poppler which contains pdfimages. It's easy to download on Linux ("poppler-utils" or just "poppler"), for Windows you may want to either get it via cygwin (look for "poppler" package), via anaconda, or directly as a Windows binary (look here: https://stackoverflow.com/a/53960829))

Once properly installed, open up a terminal in the same directory as the PDF and use these commands:
List content of pdf:
pdfimages -list yourfile.pdf
Extract content to a folder called "out" (create beforehand):
pdfimages -all yourfile.pdf out/

13dl site has a request board and a tag for fufilled requests. They post requests but back-date them 1 year from the posting time so they get hidden/buried in the back. Cats are always be asking shit on their request board, but it's mostly novels and manga.

Might be worth going through. If you check some of the most interesting and unique shit has the request tag. So it's probably worth posting some requsts on their board and they'll check other sites, presumably Chinese ones, to see if they got it.
