I'm like >>4977386 in the sense that I find it interesting how they managed to get so many eyeballs on them in the first place, while there's obviously factors such as stylisation and the quality of art they produce, the quality of art only helps them standout once they already have an audience, but the only way someone can go from having zero fans to more than zero is by latching onto something that people are seeking out in the first place.

If they just keep making original art at best they can very slowly work up a fan base of people who stumbled across their art by accident, but if they draw characters that are already popular then they have more of a chance for someone to stumble across their art work, even more so if they go after much less saturated characters and IPs (i.e flavour of the month anime/game coom idols)
Of course the quality of the art helps massively, but it won't help at all if people won't come across the art in the first place, and that's the key to all of those successful coombux farmers, a mixture of appealing art (even if it doesn't appeal to you, it appeals to some coomer out there), trending riding and of course a little bit of luck :^) pic related

I used artbreeder and while its cool its extremely limited. it works if you only want to draw anime characters or standard forward facing concept art characters but theyre all in exactly the same pose. the landscape generator is pretty cool but honestly it seems to end up taking just as much work to fix it as it would to design it, pic related. thumbnails look cool but the reality is it has little more substance than a vague idea I came up with in my head

Anon, you can't do much other than try. Most "great artists" (including writers) didn't get famous in their lifetimes. Some made enough to live, although seeing your blood and tears barely keeping up with your bills won't be that fulfilling.

As for the big shots, like directors, celebrity artists, writers and creators, there are two general paths to that: luck or being a wagie.
Luck as in you get the right opportunity/attention that allows you to springboard your work into a product with enough impact that you can generate a lot of money (not necessarily to you).
Being a wagie means climbing up the ranks. Being an assistant, then a group leader, then a manager, then whatever else is above. Until you have enough authority, seniority, SKILL to take the shots and use other people's money to turn your vision into something.

Being a wagie will give you immediate returns, you will make a living (or some living) from the start, but you may never get there and hate your job.

Being an independent author won't give you immediate returns, so you'll have to build it gradually, and as with having a career, it might never take flight. You might find ways to simplify what you have to say artistically into products that are easier to sell, or try to balance authorial and commercial works.

There is no easy answer, sometimes "just draw" is the only think that'll keep you sane in this path to madness.

I never wanted to be "famous", I just wanted to scrape by. I would have been as happy as it gets if I could have scraped by. I am incredibly misanthropic and no one has ever shown a deep enough interest in what I do for me to feel I accomplished something (other than for my own satisfaction). Yet I know I am also not giving my all, not creating a consistent output of my supposed passion for people to begin to care.
What helps me a little is streaming. Every time I do, there's some people who show up. Most of them are half-wits with no understanding of whatever pretentious deepness I think there is in my art. The smarter ones are still not very relatable to me, as we don't see the world the same way.

Yet there's these little moments when they "get it". They give an opinion on how to improve, they comment on the storytelling, or say they're excited to see it finished on the next stream. There are people behind these "stupid plebs" with whom I have to make an effort to interact. These few but loyal viewers are what keep me going these days.
If you need to start from scratch, you'd have better luck streaming in any language other than English, which is saturated by ESLs. If you are part of other communities, invite them. Call mom and dad. I barely talk to my sister and the other day two people showed up saying she had told them about my stream. Little actions that tell me they want me to succeed, they just don't know of tangible ways to support me.

Of course you can try and sell mugs/shirts to your public, but more importantly you seem hardened by the world, and as a fellow rock I think this could help you see some light in these seemingly NPC people.
