How important is photocopying really? Is construction more important or is the ability to draw what you see more important?

Also, which skill should come first: photocopying or construction?

Tfw that photo was meant to be rotated 90% to the right.

I drew her doing a handstand, I swear.

Drawing from reference trains you to stop symbol drawing and builds your visual library, both of which are crucial to drawing from imagination.

I guess what I'm asking is what should I learn to do first: photocopy from reference, use basic shapes to construct a figure geometrically, or both at the same time?

>> No.4974364

>>4974324
If you think the two options for drawing the figure are "photocopying" and "geometric construction," you should forgo both and learn gesture.

Start learning construction first.
Construction will make drawing from observation easier.

Googling that term comes up with multiple definitions. Which one do you mean? Because one of them is that thing where people draw a model that is in the room which isn't exactly a sensible idea in a pandemic. Also the classroom environment isn't really one I do well in.

If you mean starting drawings off with circles/ovals and lines like in this picture sometimes I do something like that. Not always but looking at pictures like this one have influenced the way I start drawing.

There's probably a more specific meaning but the sites that come up have the same description problem that most "how to" art guides have.

There's no formula anon. Dip your toes in both. When you want to focus on one, do that. When you feel lacking in one move to the other.

I've had this question too. I've settled on drawing from reference until I learn which is more important.

Wtf does Photocopying mean? If you're talking about observational skills then yeah it's improtant to train that skill but construction is more important if you wanna make it look legit.

Being a soulless copy machine means you learn nothing if you just 1:1 copy without thought cause you won't be able to replicate it. If you're gonna "copy" then do it with intention with a fundie you wanna polish
