Newfriend, YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

POST DRAWINGS YOU NEED HELP WITH

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

1.-screenshot the image and post that instead

2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

3.-send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

Take your time, you can do it.

Screenless tablets don't have parallax or cause back issues. Now you'll understand why some of us prefer them. I've been rocking an intous pro m for years. Never had a single issue and I've produced plenty of awesome art with it.

You haven't even gotten to the real trouble part of screen tablets where the monitor dies yet.

Which art profession, or any means of income, in illustration and painting, would you consider a great entry point for someone who just wants to get their foot in the door?
I illustrated for a novel once, but they found me on craigslist and it was extremely small time. I wouldn't mind doing more like that though. Where would one even look for a similar opportunity that isn't craigslist or fivver?

Art is fucking bad for money. You'll get more doing burgers unless you are going to debase yourself by doing porn right now especially weird porn.

If you look on industry job advertisements, almost all of the entry level ones want Photoshop, zBrush, Maya and 3DSmax. You should pirate a copy of all of them and learn them all. And make a portfolio.

I'm a big /lit/fag. Almost all of the novel covers are made by artists with very good portfolios on artstation. Authors won't contact you, the publishers will. Authors don't even get any say in the cover of their book. Research this further by finding an art discord with industry connections. Iirc there's one for concept art at least.

Well I assume that since Cutesexyrobutts is allegedly two Chinese guys, they probably got the classic Chinese art education TM.

If you are unaware, Chinese parents widely consider art to be the shittiest profession in existence. China's pretty much a third world country. Doing the best for one's kids and making money is considered very important. Parents might be neutral, disapprove or threaten with excommunication unless the hobby is discontinued. Surviving artists get good because they want it so badly they either risk getting disowned or they want it so badly they have successfully been practicing in secret. China also teaches art in the classic form, from life drawing and bargue plates/rendering statues. A lot of Chinese artists get good because they grind autistically. With so many people, standing out is very difficult and work ethic is encouraged from a very early age. For example, kindergarten is when they first schooled. Art prodigies might be schooled as early as then.

Pretty much all art improvement can be linked to copying from life or copying from art masters. And fundamentals of course. If you want their style, draw exact copies of their art. And work on fundamentals.

Your lines are too heavy, this contributes to the creepiness. Turn down the size and accent areas with thickness later.
Have reference, even if it's not of a similar subject, next to your pic. Even a skull would help get the proportions right

Try using light sketchy lines to find the form of your drawing. Think of it as molding clay, slowly building out the forms and shapes. As you build it up you can apply a bit heavier strokes on areas you're confident on. Unless your Kim Jung Gi you're not gonna just freehand make perfects strokes off a blank canvas. The light lines serve as a guide for the actual drawing.

Pic related are two sketches, one with a pencil brush that varies is size and opacity the harder I press. The other is unresponsive to pressure, it applies the same amount of pixels regardless of how hard I press. The bottom one looks messier because the light exploratory strokes are easy to see. The top is neater because the exploratory strokes are very light.

I think your a tad retarded, mate. Drawing porn is probably the BEST way to study anatomy. Youre drawing naked people, theres no way to hide your mistakes with clothes or other things. Aiming to have a drawing be erotic is way more difficult then aiming to have a drawing look "good", so it requires more effort to achieve a good result. And drawing poses and figures for 1000 hours doesnt magically give you the still to draw and properly place a vagina, a butthole, or a penis. Too many times have I been to a figure drawing class with a nude model and the students either draw on underwear or make their genitals look disfigured.

Okay. Full pages. Still hard to guess the full page. Ahhhh. Drawing what I see. Easier when I found a charcoal pencil and started drawing overhand. I can actually shade. Pens were making things really hard because I had to keep trying to find the lines. Now it’s easier, even if it mostly seems like lines. But I can now communicate shade. Happy I found random images of thigh highs. My faces still fucking suck. You're not understanding this at all. What you are doing right now is called mimicking. Mimicking is when you learn how to do something by watching someone else do it. Miminged skills are rarely correct. Additionally, when you're doing a task completely differently from how it's done in the given situation, you're very likely to do it wrong. When I first learned how to drive, my dad taught me in this rusted out piece of shit car that was WAY too fast for the road I was driving on. The car was so old, it had no shock absorbers whatsoever. And what did I do when I first started driving? I crashed the fuck out of that car. Do you know how many fuck ups I made before I could drive something even slightly stable? About a gajillion. That's why driving is hard, and you're going to make mistakes. It's fine. Keep doing what you're doing, kid. You'll get it eventually.

Just wanna disclaim again that I'm an ultra pleb way below your skill level but I notice stuff I'm currently struggling with mysef:

feels to me like she's missing her hips, kinda important to a female form. The shoulders also seem a bit misaligned compared to her torso. Pretty sure the chin is supposed to be a line that goes straight down from the middle of the head instead of curving inwards. Also jawline seems a bit big. Facial features are a bit symbol-draw-y. Pose is a bit too safe and stiff and lacks dynamism, that's what figure drawing is good for. I think we beginners kinda fall for the trap of depicting stuff in a very "matter of fact" way and it's kind of a trap

Otherwise I think it's solid and you're on a good trajectory. I'm too intimidated to draw even half bodies myself at my current level so don't feel discouraged. Hopefull you can get some better feedback than mine though

It's not bad. I would work on more confident lines and better shading technique. When crosshatching, try not to go with the form and then against the form. Or just fill in the shadow so we don't see the hatching. That and just keep going with figure drawing!

I just went over your lines with long, confident strokes and big flat shadow shapes. Hope that helps you visualize it.

its your choice, paper and pencil reinforce the idea of getting the line correct the first time or fucking it up, but realistically speaking it's more for fun, basically 99% of artists do their shit on a tablet now, it's more efficient and tidy to draw your drawings on a computer, personally i still think paper is nicer for more complex projects (anything thats 10 hours plus) since its something you can physically show a person

>dark to light, right
Generally it's the opposite because it's harder to remove value than to add value. I just need you to establish a baseline for what you should aim for. You have zero black on your page so you should get some there rightaway to understand the range of values. Black to white, not gray to white.

>do i use my soft or hard pencils first
Really experiment. It can be the same idea with removing (soft is easier to erase and remove signs of error).

>i thought you weren't supposed to use your fingers to blend because of oils on your fingers
I've never heard this. I only say this because I doubt you have a stump or some tool to blend with. I use fingers all the time with no issue (albeit when you get to the more representative/realism area, it gets harder to make subtle changes with a finger).

>does "pushing values into it" mean draw dark, then when it gets lighter because of blending draw over it again?
It means you establish a form. Reevaluate. Establish more tones. Revaluate. Establish more tones. Reeveluate. Establish more tones. It can mean the process of moving from a line sketch to a fully rendered picture.
