You start with an idea that has three or four things in it, so once you've drawn one of them it won't look done enough to move onto the next drawing.
Once you have more than two things in an image it should become easier to either add more or compose, polish and crop what you already have.

Questions about effort are actually questions about interest. It's a terrible mindset to externalize such things, as if everything needed to come from the outside. You gain control of yourself by modifying your surroundings to control you. Make cleaning fast and you'll clean, make sleeping comfortable and you'll sleep, remove cooking from eating and you'll eat, make your drawing interesting and you'll draw. Willpower is only used to resist things, you won't need to have any if you don't resist anything.

When i was starting art school, age 15, they made us draw a dense freehand grid made of horizontal, vertical and diagonal lines over a whole 100x70cm paper over and over again, for days, while we were all waiting to start drawing nude chicks. It was frustrating. But the overall detail and effort ratio per square meter was probably something i haven't surpassed in all subsequent years of intense study and almost two decades of professional work. When the elderly lady model finally came to our atelier, we were ready, the grid was imprinted in our minds and after giggling at the sight of her naked wrinkly flabby body we lovingly started hanging her soft flesh on it to dry.
