Most of the text is teaching you how to behave as a teacher and teach anatomy, to be confident while drawing infront of your student, eg..
But as I said it is really too much text which just complicates the whole act of drawing.
The construction on the other hand are good.

While I get what you are saying about the wings is helpful and accurate, the client already agreed to enjoy the way it was setup so I've been spending most of the time translating 2d pixels to something that could be more based in reality. I'm more concerned on figuring out the best depiction of talon hands playing a guitar while angled upwards and then adding the requested rainbow wing effects for the client. I had us go through some reference together for a few different wing types but he let me choose in the end and I kinda liked the aesthetic from SMT accented wings.

photoshop or CSP?

Looks like you are using the selection+paint bucket to fill in your lineart. Whats happening is your lines have soft edges. Meaning at each edges of your line there are transparent pixels. The selection+paint bucket tool sees that these are occupied pixels so they are not selected. However they are not full opacity pixels so the background bleeds through.

In photoshop there is a setting to expand the selection by [x] number of pixels. CSP has an area scaling in the paint bucket settings. Or you can manually color underneath your lineart with a full opaque brush, whatever you find easiest.

just a thing to note, the reason you see a lot of red faced drunks in anime is cause chinks don't have a specific gene for liver/alcohol metabolizing properly, so they get a slight allergic reaction from it. An old founding father or British poof socialite would most likely not have the red face effect, and furthermore the powder would hide it anyway.

Hi, so i think the rendering on this looks weird and the piece looks kind of confusing. I think zooming out a little and choosing a better angle and shapes would've helped with the confusion, but i dont know what to do about the rendering. Should i just exercise by painting the materials i want to represent (which would be mostly metal in this case) or what? Also, do you see anything else that could be better?

If you want replies the best way is to insult someone else's work, or claim your work is better than it actually is.

You'll get alot of shitposts calling you dunning kruger but it almost always baits someone to give a detailed critique as to why your work isn't as good as you think it is.

Anyways I like the energy of the piece. The character is very vague though, is it a knight, a demon guy?? He doesn't contrast with the background at all. You chose you put a grey block the same color and value as your character and he just gets lost in it.

It is not so complicated to understand the most basic way to simplify the legs, they are just two cylinders (simple: straight; complicated: curved). Then what will help you most is to study anatomy, doing stylized things as in your case would help you know well in what order to put the lines. I leave you a quick drawing I made so that you can understand a little better what I mean (I just started with digital drawing, sorry for not being so precise). Understanding well how to visualize things in three dimensions, knowing which part is in front of which and with a simple shadow you can describe relatively well any part of the body.

Hi, not sure if I can technically include this collage. I used to draw a huge amount as a preteen, was pretty good for my age, but took up writing instead as a general creative medium through which to build reputation in from teenage years and into young adulthood...

Really not good at visual art. Many publications and a debut book with creative and academic writing however, so I think I am creatively inclined enough to start drawing to actually get good. Even though it's a bit late to just take up a new passion. Maybe not. I don't know. Not saying all this to brag; just kind of curious how creative capacities / inclinations / "talent" / studious training actually translates between medium.

The perspective on the guitar is way to extreme, compared to the eagle man.
Notice how smaller the head of the guitar's bridge is compared to it's base, even though the guitar is at most a couple feet in length, and then notice how both wings are more or less the same size, even though they're like 20 feet apart.
Basically, the width of the bridges should not decrease that much due to perspective.

Not sure where to post this, but what are more traditional ways of learning to draw?

I mostly lack self motivation but do pretty well when told what to do.

I was gonna take a art class here at my college, but I might gradate next semester, and I don't want to pay 900+ dollars to take the class while adding additional stress to my semester.

Anyone know many possible alternatives ?

yes it's that course
too early for me to say since I'm only 7 days in, but I recommend it. easy enough to follow and low daily commitment (~1hr). it's a painting demo everyday, goes over some theory but only as it is applied, some photoshop techniques and pointers on painting. if you paint along, it may take >1hr to digest what he's saying

also it's all in photoshop, but if you use csp like me, csp can open his psd files and you can find functions similar to the ones he uses. may take a bit longer because of that. have not tried other programs

for reference, pic related is what I was painting along with. none of what he's painted so far is exceptional *imo but there is greater focus on speed, method and ideology. it's not as thorough as his 'design with color and light' but at least i can paint along with this one and not fall asleep to his ramblings.

anyway its on cgpeers and in the ic torrent, you can get it and try it out for yourself

Did you trace the lines anon? They're too well done for someone who doesn't understand how a sphere works. Understand what you're rendering. Split it up into clear shapes with straight lines. Google asaro head. Find 3 values, 2 at the mid range (one could be the same value as your background one a bit lighter but not too light). The other value is your shadow value, this will be way darker then your midvalues but never black. Use a scale of 3 values to begin with. Find faces with dramatic light setting, stop painting female faces, just go jerk of instead. Female faces are many steps above anything you should be currently working on. Also, good luck anon. Mileage is the key.
