F YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud, Make yourself proud, you can make it if you believe in yourself.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

1.-screenshot the image and post that instead

2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

3.-send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Hand looks too small and oddly proportioned.

Breasts are uneven sized. Midsection looks like it's facing us head on but the breasts are going in their own direction.

Tail looks very flat and looks impossibly thick where it joins the body.

Linework is unflattering. I think that your sketch looks better.

I want to recreate images like this in a simplistic manner. For now I resorted to tracing at least the basic aspects.
How do I know which shades/colours to use?
How do I make the crude end product still feel three-dimensional?
How do I create my own elements into the image without tracing them?

How do you store your work that's not really high quality but you dont want to get rid of?
I'm working through DaB, Loomis, etc, and I'm generating just piles, like hundreds of sheets of paper. I don't want to throw it all out because I want to be able to look back on it and evaluate and compare with my newer work, but I also don't want to buy a ton of portfolios. Should I just get some cardboard boxes?

Brushes, pens, etc. I look at some artists I follow for inspiration and they look "right" while everything I make feels either "bold, thick, or sharp". I've been using ink pen for line art, but idk if I should do that, brushes, pencil, etc on CPS.

When you look at those artists you follow and you feel that gap between their art and yours, it's really important to try and pinpoint exactly what you like about their art, that's missing from your own. Just looking at the art you like without critically thinking about it can result in that feeling of inadequacy when looking back to your own. More than that it's a great idea to find even more art that inspires you. It's doesn't necessarily have to be drawings. Movies, comics, animation, video games, you'd be surprised by how an interest in a different field can lead to a breakthrough in your own. Try to diversify your tastes, part of becoming a great artist is branching out into many subjects so that you can bring it back to yours and make something truly unique.

The drawing is well observed, but you gotta push those values. The top of the beak and the feathers of the wings are so dark, yet in your rendering they're about the same value as the white breast and head feathers. It's more obvious when you make the image black and white. See how yours is just grey all over compared to the reference?

That's not bad man, you should keep at it. You've got a good eye and a decent foundation already for someone who's only been at it for two or so months. Yuasa is a good goal, his work is very expressive and loose, he really just attacks the page when he draws. You should do some studies from some of his work, his abstractions and short hand are really elegant

double check your proportions and alignment before pushing forward to details.
look how far out ref's head is over his leg, you've got him leaning in in the opposite direction. notice overall arc on face compared to yours with chin jutting forward.

also draw through to far side of forms, you've got weird baby legs because you were only thinking about the front side and didn't draw the back half.

seems like you got a little lazy or unsure when you hit the thighs. might be because you're thinking of more of a modern ass-out pelvis tilt, she's like most vintage models with her groin thrust forward more/top of her pelvis tipped back.

3 months, it's been a waste of time and are you the one who complains about true /beg/ or whatever? I'll tell you what someone should have told me months ago, why are you even drawing then? This constant conflict seeking behavior will take you nowhere, why are you drawing? who are you drawing for? what makes you want to draw? You'll stop caring about someone being true beg or not if it's honest, and you'll keep crying if it's not.
There is no reason for it you know, anger won't lead you to make a better work, that's a cinematic delusion, no one cares, not even you, so drop the bullshit and draw if you're honest or just pick something else.
There's no big epiphany if you keep being a dick, you're just wasting your time.

I think you could learn to draw and colour like him, sure. His stuff is super loose and dynamic, even if things aren't technically correct in his work it's drawn with such confidence and exaggerated in such a way that it's still nice to look at. He's a professional animator who's been working in the industry and mastering his craft for over twenty years, so you shouldn't put pressure on yourself to be as good as him if you want to do it as a 'side thing'. If there's one thing you should take from Yuasa it's that you shouldn't take art so seriously, it's not a life-or-death or a be-good-or-quit discipline. Just try to have fun drawing dumb shit and do some studies along the way. Comparing your progress to others is an awful, destructive habit, you must focus on yourself

Nice job identifying the ribcage, but your pelvis scheme is super weird. Love the headconstruction and the neck, but the neck is attacked more at an angle to the ribcage, it's nicely visible on the ref. Skull is missing mass on the backside, check out the skull in profile and you will see. You have nicely drawn the trapezius but forgot to draw it on the other side too. I know there is only a tiny bit that you can see, but it makes a big difference and you should always relate one side to the other. Legs look a little short because the angle is more straighter. Nice effort I think you will improve tons with these.
Look for another way to simplify the pelvis, you should be able to identify the PSIS from it. If you get the pelvis right, it opens the door to proper leg construction.
