This board is mostly used for zingers and one-liners instead of actually drawing. Everybody tries to "own" other posters instead of helping them.

But then the question is: why should you bother helping people? All the information is out there and if you're actual good at drawing you'd rather just make a guide video on youtube and get a dollar for every 1k views than to spend your days here teaching a bunch of guys here that you'll never meet in real life how to draw. Teaching other people here ensures you'll have less time improving your own skills and could potentially spawn future competition while not making you any money in the process.

Honestly this as well - I don’t know how much that would improve the board culture in the short term, but that would really help cull the glut of shitty threads.

That aside, I’m sure any newbie would be put off by the amount of ebin dark triad types who post bait and the rageposters - not sure if it would improve traffic, but purging this board entirely of stuff that deviates from technique and art discussion would certainly bring things back on track.

People like doers. They want someone to follow or imitate, someone to bandwagon with.
/ic/ generates nothing of value, so we are not seen as doers.

Where are our interesting art projects? Game projects are on /g/, Waifushit is on /a/ and /co/, coom is on /aco/, etc. etc. etc.

Our only contribution to the Internet at large (other than learning resources) are the "Tower Princess" threads, and maybe whatever little gets posted on the comic/manga general.

"Limitations are liberating" is something all artists eventually come upon. When you have a theme, a specific goal, instead of total creative freedom, you can create something way more easily.
On other boards, the theme is whatever the board's theme is. /ic/, on the other hand, doesn't have a theme. "Anything goes". We are the "Misc." category of the 4chan community, for better or for worse.

If drawthreads on other boards weren't such a begging shitshow, I wouldn't even be on /ic/. I'd just stay with the community that draws the things I'm most interested into.
