IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the Drawthread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make someone proud, Make yourself proud, you can make it if you believe in yourself.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES TO ~1000 PIXELS:

1.-screenshot the image and post that instead

2.-change camera capture settings to something smaller

3.-send to computer and resize in picresize.com

There's a new (and cleaner) sticky in town! You can see it at:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1uwaXKU7ev6Tw_or__o8ARpUb6r2rCZYJGqwSFV9AD98/edit#bookmark=id.15jx3pyuimvj

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is a bit sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

Everything is crit worthy.

Improvement from yesterday, keep going. Look at what you see, not what you think you see. Measure, proportions, pose. A pose like this is too advanced for your skill level, as it has a lot of foreshortening and too much black hiding contour and structure of her body.

Layer your drawing over the image, at 50% opacity. You'll see what you got wrong, and possibly why.

Look at the overall form.

Look for the underlying structure, and landmarks.

Compare measurements and check proportions.

Pay attention to positive space, and white space. An image like this helps you here - look at the white space of the photo, or better, isolated it from from the figure with masking. Does the white space of the photo match the white space of your drawing? Why not?

Look at the white space in the crook of her arm. Yours doesn't match. Why?

Look how forward her shoulder facing you is, compared to her chin. Not only did you not see that, but you got the shape and placement of her head wrong. Look at where the sword touches her shoulder, high up. Your drawing shows it touching at the top of her shoulder. Why?

This is the mental process to take to learn where you goofed, and what to look for on the next attempt.

Try again. LOOK. MEASURE. THINK. Better, use more simple figures and poses. This one is a bad reference to learn from, at your skill level. You'll get to this level, with time and effort.

His right arm is way too long.
My advice is to compare angles. You can already compare horizontally and vertically from what I'm seeing, but you also need to incorporate angles.
For example, if you're drawing the right arm, look at the reference and observe the angle the hand makes with the top of the guy's head, or the bottom of his feet. This will give you an idea of how far you should extend the arm.

Pls /beg/ I need some quick advice for a background and I'm a babby at photoshop.

I'm going for a retro B-movie poster/comic book type feel, so I got the idea of concentric circles with alternating colors (light green/dark green). Hi /beg/, I'm still trying to get to grips with using a drawing tablet and art in general. I sketched over a ram's skull and tried out blending and colouring, but I'm still not happy with the results.
I did the colouring/shading/whatever by eye but I traced the initial shape from a reference. I've got no clue what tools in photoshop I "should" be using when it comes to colouring, so even though I technically didn't draw this from my head I would greatly appreciate any advice on what to fix. Somebody that I like his art told me this, what is your opinion?
>I would say traditional medium sketchbook, 2b to 8b pencils, and the very thin markers. Also, brush pen, and ink.
>These materials push you to consider more what you'll put down on your paper. there is also no Undo button so you'll be more careful. Studying with these materials mainly some sketches that are more finished or some studies. later on for color acrylics and brushes (thicker the better for learning shape good shape use)... Later on, once you get comfortable with these materials switch to digital and try to implement the knowledge and muscle memory through the software you use. What software you use doesn't really matter. It really depends on preferences or just getting used to one that you been working in for a while. I'm using PS cs6 though. For drawing in digital I definitely recommend something thin that feels like a pencil. and for painting and blocking in shapes in general in digital I recommend to watch this guy video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Nt9fa8jZUE

>Regarding actual material that you work with... The price or quality doesn't really matter... you can achieve almost the same with the cheapest equipment as well. Obviously more expensive stuff will give you perhaps richer colors but in the end... their use is "almost" always the same.

this seems like a digifag that's just guessing. did he actually use this setup himself while learning or did he use #2 pencil and ballpoint for years at the start like most artfags?

Brush pen is fun to play around with, but it wasn't very productive for me learning-wise as a /beg/, it's just too much tool to deal with, and a pentel pocket went through a cartridges in like 2 days of fucking about for me.
Technical pens are nice because they're idiotproof, but any ink is a good training tool for the "I hope you're happy with the line you just drew because it's not going anywhere" effect.
Getting a shit load of pencil options is pointless if you're not deeply interested in pencil rendering autism, and you can get a good helping of that with just 2 weights. 2 weights is nice in general though because you can do construction and a rougher sketch and then fade it with your hand or kneaded eraser and then do a second layer with the darker pencil.

Any wrinkles on a woman's face instantly ages them. To avoid that you have to use a extremely light shading over wrinkles that would be on a young face. Shading hair and skin the same shade was a mistake. The underside of the hair should be a orange, brown ish tone. The skin should be pink or a tan in the shade. Other anon already pointed out softer value changes. When you highlight and color hair, think of it as thin lines clumped together made out of tiny thin lines brushed.

Yes and to gain an intuitive understanding of drawing boxes freehand. If you find that you're repeating lines, make sure to ghost first before putting down your pen. It's normal to have shitty boxes for your first few pages of the challenge. That's why you have to extend your lines with a ruler every time you finish a page and see how inaccurate you were, and then correct them on your next set of boxes.

Tell me if I understand Vilppu correctly.
1. Draw the action of the figure using lines that imitate how the eye flows through it.
2. Put down loose, generic volumes where needed.
3. Embellish volumes with center lines that come from the gesture lines, and/or draw contours over the surface of these volumes. Whatever will help more later.
3. Clarify forms by drawing how they interact, (pinching, stretching, pushing, spilling etc.)

Each step have their own elements necessary for both previous and future steps. By practicing each step individually, the procedure will become more and more clear. How does that sound?

Yeah, the art could use some work, but it's adequate at least for the purpose of the comic.

The overall composition is good too as it's not stuff and has a lot of life which a lot of web comics don't have.

The humor is a bit on the nose and is essentially an "I explained the joke, joke" which I don't find funny, but at least you put some effort in.

Your linework is the biggest problem. You don't have any line confidence and it looks very inconsistent. Wonky proportions can be forgiving to a point in gag comics but if the line work isn't good it can middle the drawing and really hurt the overall presentation.

The biggest issue I can see is the mouth. Look at how close it is to the base of the chin on the photo and compare with the one on the drawing. Also notice that his head is tilting down on the photo so the features should be lower overall.

For the shading try focusing on the big shapes of shadows first instead of trying to do everything. What I find helpful is to pump the contrast up a lot so they are more visible.

Any criticism?
First thing I notice is that the face isn't exactly aligned as in the image

you tipped the whole thing slightly and killed all the overlaps. on ref left shoulder overlaps face, upper right, left obliques overlap lats, left pec overlaps armpit, etc etc through the whole picture, making you lose depth.
also gay

it is not clear if you are criticizing the modern political discourse or praising it. I assume that you are criticizing it, but by the way it is worded and framed I can't tell. because it is the exact same format that people use to tell others that they have wrong opinion
