What is so appealing in pepe design
Only /ic/ can answer this question

It starts with relatability. He is a frog, not a black guy, or a white guy, or any other guy. He’s not even a guy, he could be a girl. It’s a frog with a relatable face. The original “feels good man” was funny amd different the first time people saw it. It became a basic reaction image and from there people made alternate versions. Rare pepes became a meme and they blew up to millions of versions pushing the mass appeal further. At this point it’s simply so recognisable that it appeals to us, it’s how advertising works. They don’t expect you to see an advert then rush out and buy it. They just expect your brain to see it enough, then one day when you need it you option without meaning to. Our brains are lazy as an evolutionary trait. It wants to use the minimal energy possible especially with things you don’t really. need to think about. Pepe really sprung into the everyday when it became politicised like everything else popular. Controversy, relatability, and widespread usage=mass appeal.

The drawing spinoff is recently new, but sadfrog has been around for well over 10 years.

People who use it are either newfags or troll posters. The newfags probably have never realized how old the meme is so they help keep it alive, but they're also unable to come up with anything new since. Anyway, sage.

Pepe is not a human so it is relatable to anyone who sees it

Animals are generally more likeable than humans but Pepe also has a face that gives off human emotion without being uncanny which widens it's likeability

Pepe's eyes each have 3 reflective dots which while showing emotion manage not to be too sparkly or girly, but also give a mildly cute appeal so on some level it feels like you want to take care of it or that you can relate to it

Pepe has a simple color scheme but also one that is uncommon so it is easily associated with him

Pepe is made of rounded shapes which give a sense of safety, as opposed to sharp shapes which give a subconscious feeling of danger

And lastly, but arguably the most important aspects of his design is that Pepe has a defined silhouette that can be recognized even if you see him blacked out completely, so he is recognizable in any form

All these factor into why Pepe is a perfect design that is so widely likeable and can apply to anything. You will see similar design elements even in world-famous characters like Mickey Mouse

the sheer uniqueness and expressiveness of the design of it and how cements itself in your mind overtime. like all memes it's all about repeated exposure. also it's somewhat ugly and 4chans common anon identifies with that. the green is also an anon 4chan thing. it just fits the mold of what belongs on this site.
