I'm just starting to learn fundamentals of light and shadow but I'm using digital media is Dorian course Mastering Light & Form enough to get into digital painting ? should i also add another course ? what do you guys suggest ?

>> No.4916447

Which brush do you guys use in CSP?
I'm having a hard time figuring out what would be the best/most versatile one as there isn't a direct hard round as such. The one I like the most is the opaque watercolour one, and if I just want to quickly hash out an idea the G Pen is ok too, but both of them feel kinda incomplete? Is there a definite "go-to" brush in CSP available?

Dorians course is a bit abstract and difficult to apply, imo. What really helped me was Vilppus figure drawing course. At the end, he has three separate lectures on tone, lighting, and different lighting effects. If you go to those lessons and still have problems... his earlier lectures on drawing are there to support you. Lighting the human figure is the most practical way to learn rendering, not rendering spheres. Spheres are only the first baby step, but that’s basically all what Dorian covers

Here's what I do:
>line drawing
>flat silhouette under line drawing
>make new layer between line drawing and flat silhouette
>clipping mask down.
Then your brushstrokes won't leave the line-drawing. Lower the opacity of the line drawing gradually as you render. Then eventually, you can paint on top of the line drawing. I'm not a painter though, I only render just for practice. To blend, you have to spam the eye-dropper tool.

All of that I got from Andrew Hou's schoolism course. I'm sure there's a link somewhere for that.

How the fuck do I explain to my parents what concept art is?

I'm gonna move to the US as a citizen to study art, but the only thing stopping me from raking in my parent's cash is getting them to understand that me studying art is not just a shot in the dark.

>> No.4917454

What do you tell them?

Concept art is used during delevopmeant in productions. It's varies greatly, from characters, costumes, sets, scenes, advertisment, merchandising, products. Storyboarding isn't jut for cartoons and Often used to plan cgi in movies. Often known to be used in entertainment industry it can be used outside of it.

Thing is, I come from a third-world country so actually having a job and living comfortably of off art is unheard of here, so it's already hard to explain.

I said that, for every movie, game, show, etc. there's a miryad of artists working BTS and there's a constant need for a large number of those artists, so entertainment was a massive industry, but they didn't seem to understand it that way. They told me that there were a lot of people that tried to be actors/musicians or any other type of artists, and they never got it. But I don't know how to explain the fact that getting work freelance or getting hired by a studio is so much more feasible and common than they think

Should I be concerned with the compress option for PNG files on photoshop?
I saved a pic I made as PNG without it and the reaking file was 41 MB, however, the same file with compress option set to true was around 5 MB.
I saved them separately and compared them side by side and I couldn't notice any difference, tho it could be either that my eyesight or my monitor sucks. So, is it safe to use that compress options? how much does it affect the final result?

Yes, there are a lot of art jobs in the world, especially in America. But there are far, far more candidates than there are jobs.

Is it fine to draw on normal sketchbook??
It is textured nothing like smooth newsprint
I would like to buy newsprint paper but it's expensive af.
My job doesn't pay much I can only afford like 3 polychromos and a sketchbook plus 500 sheets of A4 if I want to draw alot.
I can save some money for a couple of months to buy some bulk news print but I don't know what to buy there is so many options in Amazon.

Depends on where you actually are. A lot of time complete beginners will ask what the best this or what is the best that when they haven't really begun even building basic hand eye when it comes to drawing. Like a newborn wanting to compete in the Olympics before they've learned how to crawl. As long as you keep your studies focused and targeted, you'll be fine.

Draw something.
Look at it and breakdown your missteps and work backwards.
>I cant draw arms
Study underlying structure
>I'm having trouble representing the shapes
Study primitives
>I'm having trouble making the correct lines
Work in some Peter Han like line exercises for your muscle memory.
etc.

You don't have to be hyper focused on one singular thing, but constantly bumping your weak points by putting relevant exercises into your routine is a fairly good start.

>>4920786
Crab refers to the metaphor of crabs in a bucket. As the saying goes, if you have a bucket full of crabs, and one tries to get out of the bucket, the other crabs will grab onto it and pull it back in. In essence, a crab is somebody that keeps others down because of their own jealousy and insecurity.

Because it has nothing to do with beginners giving bad advice. It's bitter, jealous people trying to keep others from succeeding, you don't have to be a beginner to fit that description, and you don't even have to give advice to fit that description. The only thing that you said that was correct is that crabs aren't helpful.
