The single eye thing is just masturbation to impress normies. Your average viewer will scroll on through. Don't worry about making finished and polished art until you work on drawing a bit more. Do something challenging, like the rest of the face. You want me to tell you that you did a good job, but that's not what you NEED. You made a convincing eye, now keep going. Draw like you owe it to yourself to improve, not like you're farming internet points.

Typically with studies, the goal is to learn something.

>>4903604
Why don't you try to make art then.

I'm worried about you on a psychological level. You should take a break and re-examine why you wanted to be an artist in the first place. You have the work ethic, but you could be applying it much more effectively. When the masters say that you should make as many paintings as possible, they implied that you should be finishing your work.

Perhaps you would benefit from some critique offline. Contact some other artists that will take the time to tell you what you need to hear, because your unwillingness to respond positively to criticism online is hurting you. You've invested so much into your hobby, and it's hard to watch you struggle like this.

Skin color is made with lightning in mind, in this case I tried to push it more to an orange and magenta hue, so theres a lot of reds, oranges and browns in there...

But normally my base color is always burnt umber and a lot of white, this will make a beige/warmish grey tone, with this I add a bit of red and a bit of yellow ochre... Then is just adding whatever color you Want

How large is the canvas? Cheapo prints typically go up to 11" x 17", so you could always make tiled prints and transfer the ink with Wintergreen oil, though I don't know how the canvas and paint would interact with that.
The easiest way would be to project the image onto the canvas and trace it with pencil, but you need access to a projector.
And you could always grid it out and redraw it, or just use the digital sketch as a guideline and redraw it without worrying about copying it exactly.

I tried it a few months ago. my best advice would be to buy modelling clay like monsterclay or premo. Monsterclay is better in my opinion.
Clay is usually really tough at the beggining but as these are oil based just try kneading it or even a little heat (not too much). Try to have a few tools. A knife, a little ball or whatever its fucking name is. Also baby oil (unscented) to smoothen out your shit at the end. And baking is probably the toughest part. Dont make very big chunks as the heat may cook it unevenly and it may crack.
Good luck anon

I'm not gonna give this it's own thread.
Is charcoal better than a lead or graphite pencil for canvasses?
I can get a fairly decent under drawing with a pencil, but not good enough for my tastes, the canvas texture doesn't properly work with it.
No I will not use a bag of black chalk to stab through a cartoon and transfer a drawing.
No I will not use brown paint for an underpainting.
I want to draw on the canvas then paint it, don't suggest anything else. What's the best material to use.

if you use pencil, you can paint over it with matte medium which will seal the graphite beneath it, none of the oil paint will mix in with it.
If you're using charcoal, you can use a card to kind of scrape shellac over it to seal the drawing underneath.

i've heard that critique before, I like the aesthetics of the flat image on the canvas, not wrapping around the whole thing. As far as I know the "wrap the painting around the edges" thing is a modern affectation that didn't used to bother people. But I like the look of the flat image on the canvas it makes it look less like a factory made product and more like a handmade decoration. And people can always frame the work after they get it.

Yeah people frame them usually, frames overlap those parts of the paintings, unless they’re in a floater frame but that’s usually reserved for larger paintings.

Generally when I paint on canvas I stretch myself I use larger stretcher bars, and the color of the ungessoed canvas takes away from the distraction of having them unpainted. I generally tell people not to frame those, they’re meant to be wired and hung like that. For store bought canvases people tend to frame them, I don’t have much input on what happens to paintings after people get them, some people put them in storage as a collection some people hang them for display, some people give them as gifts.

Don't pull on the string anymore. Just grab a single layer of paper near the top and gently peel, it will peel 'upwards' towards the tip.
Its kind of counter-intuitive.

I use to use them at work and would go through hundreds of them. They suck to peel. You gotta unravel the paper really slowly or you can pull it away from the pencil and move the pencil in a circular motion to guide it. At the end of they day you're gonna go through half of the pencil from accidentally going to far and letting the lead to long. If you fuck up too much you can dig it out with a knife.

That was just an initial sketch. Idea’s the same, but hopefully it has more life to it now. I decided to add an adult cooking in a tent since the kid looked kind of out of place all alone. I’m probably wrong though.

Started putting a damp paper towel down in a sealable container, and it's kept the paint fresh for better than 2 weeks so far (with a little watering from time to time). I also dripped a bit of retarder on the paper towels too.

You can also use flow release in your rinse/thinning water to help keep the paint from drying on the brush. Shit cell picture, but you get the idea.

>> No.4923082

>>4923018
>expands composition and loses focal point on subject matter
>adds things freehand that weren't in the initial plan
these are the rookiest of rookie mistakes.

You need to change your mindset about making art. It's not about fitting as many little details and pieces of interest into a single piece as you can, a piece of art CAN be just a kid next to a horse, or a kid next to a fire, or an adult cooking near a tent. Not every piece has to be a mural. Rethink your approach because you are complicating what could've been a very quick, nice, simple piece in the name of showing off.

You clearly have some grasp on painting, drawing, and image making in general, but you need to scale back your ambitions for pieces. You could've made the piece what it was initially meant to be, and spent that time making a really nice motif on a large scale, but now there's about 6 other elements you have to bring up to that level, at a much smaller scale.
