A sphere for cranial mass, a blocky wedge shape for the facial mass...

That IS a Loomis head (and numerous other head construction systems). They're all abstractions based on the major masses of the skull. Loomis is ONE approach (among many) to the same basic idea.

The reason people call it a "Loomis Head" is because his books are by far the most widely used examples of the technique. It doesn't matter which system you use because ultimately it only needs to contain the information YOU need to visualize the head in perspective. This is why most artists do simpler and simpler constructions as time goes on (because eventually you no longer need to draw all the intersecting lines or specifically cut off the sides of the sphere etc.)

People here are always comparing systems and trying to min/max the best learning materials rather than just saying "Yes, all of them" and then actually putting in the time to draw them and learn from them.

you know what, after watching that video... the reason i wouldnt use this is because the nose is too eye and the eyes look flat. and actually the only thing that looks good is the hair which has nothing to do with all that construction.

That said, i did learn one thing from the video which i am grateful for you sharing. which is drawing those lines down from the edge of the eyebrow line, down to the chin. that determines where the edge of the eyes go. i didn't have a way to figure that out before i have just been eyeballing it. but this gives me something to add onto my frankenstein of methods so thanks anon.
