>telling a story
I thought it was just limited to the photography community, but I guess even in art you'll hear this bullshit.

A single picture can not tell a story. It can only suggest a narrative. You'd need multiple pictures for that.

You can draw the prompt and still make it creative and interesting without "telling a story"

>> No.4907358

>>4907108
>You can't work narrative into a single shot of character design.
Sure you can. Just draw a character performing an action, in anticipation, having performed an action, having a thought, experiencing something.
This is good core illustration fundies.

I didn't think it would happen because I didn't think people would end up caring but normalfags have basically killed Inktober. There are so many people doing custom prompts, and so much residual asspain about Jake that Inktober isn't really the organized "community" event that it was previously. It's harder to contribute to a collective project when no one is doing the same thing. It kills the incentive for participation as well as for the curiosity of seeing what other people's takes on the prompt you did are.

>>4911670
I would recommend getting comfortable with the fundamentals - the more used you are to basic things like making lines, observational drawing and perspective, the easier it will be to focus on more advanced things (like portraying an idea in your mind).

For starters I suggest the Drawabox ghosted lines/planes exercise (don't worry too much about the ghosting itself, it's useful but not always mandatory like he says), and when you get bored of that, you can move on to just doing pages of parallel/overlapping lines and curves as a drawing warm-up.

Hello all, just getting into ink art. Can anyone reccomend a sketch pad and set of pens for india ink? Preferably something that is good for drawing and writing and has more than 100 pages

bind several of the same sketchbook you already like together. I find most of em come with room for more if you buy any of the ones with a spiral, makes it easy
