Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0
https://youtu.be/t_IODIIYAe0

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

heads are easier than everything else, but it's not because they're actually easy. it's just that people are most motivated to draw heads so they eventually get good at doing it. everything else does take more effort imo. or at least it feels like it.
also how difficult it is depends heavily on your style. some are a lot simpler than others.

>>4891881
since i'm focusing on inking too atm i'll add my 2 cents here.
i think a good inking should try to create the illusion of light. this means i wouldn't do these open gaps everywhere, but only in specific places where the light is shining from.

also i think it's better if you can't recognize lines as "strokes" everywhere. and in your image you can see way too many of them because they don't touch to each other .
in general i think it's better to keep lines uniformly thin, as opposed to what you did, where the lines keep switching between super thin (to the point of dissapearing) and thick in every feature.
then add even thinner lines for the details while slightly thickening some lines that need emphasis.

also i think building lines with many tiny strokes is fine imo. at least i think so after watching the tsugumomo author stream more.

is this a copy as well? i'm curious as to how the original did it.

I bought my first tablet 2 months ago, is a small one and I was full trad before so it's more difficult to get used to it, the first week I spent drawing was circles, lines, and gesture, basically re-learn how to draw and develop eye to hand coordination, I also suggest to paint with a soft brush things like landscapes or still life's because they are more relaxing and you get used to the pen pressure and the flow

how are you supposed to actually learn anatomy? reading books and watching video courses is so much info to try and retain but they're not really giving assignments or homework. i get the idea of needing a basic idea of how it works biologically before simplifying it but they're not really showing how you can use it practically in an actual drawing

You don't learn anatomy by reading books or watching videos. You learn anatomy by repeatedly practicing and applying it until it's solidified into your memory. Don't waste too much time drawing muscles without skin. That's the same thing as pointlessly grinding loomis heads.

>> No.4903333

>>4903320
this, also you need to learn the insertions and origins of the muscles, that helps you when drawing from imagination, don't waste time doing 1:1 copies of anatomical plates, learn the shapes, read the hampton book, proko videos are good to studying shapes and he gives assingments, anatomy is pretty hard take it easy

Makes sense but that's bullshit. If anything is fucking us over it's shitty social media algorithms and a lack of discovery avenues for new artists. Rarely do people even get to the point where they're "competing" with one another because the platforms they're posting on don't even let them compete or reach an audience in the first place.

Go with what brush you feel results in the best lines for the look you want to achieve. Some people like using pencil-like brushes to mimic the traditional feel, makes them more comfortable. I don't think it's cringe as >>4905271 said at all. Professional artists have used references of dolls and real people since time immemorial.

For imagination-based drawing (this includes things like anime and cartoons), however, there are a few things that you should keep in mind. The first is that since the kinds of drawings we're doing often bend rules of perspective, form, and other things, you can't always be a slave to the reference. The second is that sometimes dolls can't bend well to positions that will look fine when you actually draw them (though this is less of a problem with digital dolls than it is with physical ones, though digital dolls do sometimes have rotational issues with joints and so on when it comes to the exterior geometry).

Personally, I find these are best used not to come up with or reference poses, but to check and make sure that things like foreshortening are properly done within the context of a pose that you've already come up with and drawn. In other words, I think they're most effective when used as a method for checks and comparisons of a pose you're already working on as opposed to something that you pose first and then draw.

This is just my own personal experience though, of course.
