Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0
https://youtu.be/t_IODIIYAe0

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

the arms need a lot of fixing and so the hands, those bones in the red circles, the right in your pic is okay but the one in the left can't be vissible unless the person is really thin, the part that is more vissible is the area who is almost at the front.

What is the actual drawing process?
I usually start with an idea of a pose, then I roughly sketch it in and try to fix every mistake I can think off. If I can't fix it I try to look for reference.
After that I'll do the lineart and notice even more mistakes which I then try to fix again, which probably ends in me drawing the lineart again.

Art hasn't changed at all in 10 years. The sticky is fine and a valuable research. Do not copy anime. Learn realism then come back. Its what every jap does.
Realism will give you the ability to simplify much more accurately and be able to solve problems much better with your knowledge. Anatomy and proportions will be better than 99% of anime copiers if you learn Hampton. You'll be able to draw objects, scenery, and industrial vehicles and tools much better too. Your perspective and angles will also be much more interesting and varied.
Do not neglect realism and your fundies.

Yeah some basic stuff carries but issue is I have no idea what it means by certain things or where they would be in CSP even, is there a better translation for it than Yandex? I have no idea what it means by things like line deepening mode and rubber tool or what their csp equivalent would be in CSP, trying to figure it out visually doesn't lead me to an answer.

go through ctrl paint with csp. then you should be able to understand. rubber tool is probably eraser. if you don't study japanese and are just using ocr then give up now. anime rendering is the exact same thing as anything else.

you need to learn anatomy and forms(with perspective like boxes and shit), 99% of begs approach anime with simple shit thinking they don't need to learn the hard stuff( which isn't), like some anons said you can use really simple forms like cilinders and boxes, the problem is without anatomy to back up those forms you will end drawing sausage limbs like 99% of begs.

look at this pic i stole from /beg/, this is the perfect example, you can see the forms he used, the legs look like cilinders same with the arms, the feets almost look like bricks and the clothes are stiff, theres mistakes everywhere.

the easiest to spot are those wristband things, you can tell they are supposed to be cilyndrical,
in the left hand is too fat at the top, the right one is not in the same angle with the forearm and it makes the forearm look flat as fuck as if went through a piece of paper or something, the raised leg is dislocated to me desu, you can bend your leg a bit like that but the muscles in the hip area will tuck a bit but you can still see the round outline in the dress so, the tit is also wrong, you either wrap the clotes around the tits or use a more realistic approach and take in consideration the gravity, at least in anime stuff, but that anon drew that part as if there's a flat cone in the corner of her chest.

if you want to learn anatomy don't ever use anime pics as reference they are already stylized and a lot of then have the flat shading that doesn't always show the forms specially in the face, at least from nips.

tdlr: those anime pics that look simple are actually the subproduct of more complex ideas/knowledge, you need to learn the whole enchilada to deconstruct it into simpler forms/shapes.

You will eventually come to a point where you don't have the knowledge or skill to pull off/draw a pose you have an idea for. At that point you can focus on practicing the area you are having trouble with. That's what I've been doing, and while I'm not great with perspective it's a more bit-by-bit approach to it instead of putting your face in a book for a few months.

But I've somehow read you should always buy a wacom? Is the difference that big?

The tablet thread has a resident autist wacom/iPad shill now. I also have a huion and after coming from years of wacom tablets, its almost as good as the intuos pro aside from not having any rotation detection and my drivers have given me really weird bugs before like the pressure curve line not working or showing up on my desktop instead of in the window it belongs in, but they always get fixed eventually.

You're fine with the tablet you got. Wacom definitely feels really good to use but the price is insane for what you're getting.

im not sure if you are meming but in case someone has the same doubt about it, it's better not to over complicate the construction of anything unless you want to study in great detail which is good but when it comes to construction just to do a sketch or not something that needs uber precision, just keep it as simple as possible

i find this approach easier, now this head kinda sucks but you get the point, instead of using a box with all those axis just build from the most basic measurements like eye level,ears,nose,etc...

So, your box was long to start with, I think you mentally compensated by squishing things to the front of the box and that made your ear / jawline come too far forward.

Also... the ball is a little big, it should basically encompass the top two thirds of the box (and the facial mass takes the lower third) OR it should fill the box and the facial mass should extend below it.

All in all it's VERY close and I imagine you'd have caught some of that in the actual line stage.

You're nipping at the heels of it, keep going and I am certain you'll be nailing it shortly.

Yeah I saw people using this sort of rectangular shape to fit the head in, but I wasn't really too sure why and still not sure to be honest. I think I understand the basics of making a box in perspective now, but actual construction within that box I don't understand. I sorta just said fuck it on this one and gave up on getting the torso in proper perspective and guessed it until it looked correct

They "don't comment" yet there are always comments in Japanese on pixiv from people who don't even have avatars (aka they are most likely just laymen not artists). The only place they are consistently absent from is non-Japanese uploads.

well, basically anything that teaches perspective technically teaches it.
bob hale gives a demo of using axis lines to find where to place things when building the head in his final lecture on artistic anatomy
