Why You Should Copy Anime:
https://i.imgur.com/zNDsyF0
https://youtu.be/t_IODIIYAe0

**Strive for quantity AND quality.**

Anime Studying:
>Copy anime references exactly and draw them from memory. Use illustrations, screenshots, anime figures, 3D models, etc.
>Don’t copy recklessly. Use construction, color theory, and other fundamental concepts to rehearse a drawing process that you can later easily manipulate for original artwork.
>Post all of your anime studies. Post even when you’re told not to. Create an art community that actually draws and improves together instead of just talking about it.
>Number your attempts and link to your previous posts.
>Critiquers should lead by example by posting their studies.

General Anime Style Discussion:
>Questions about achieving certain styles/techniques/compositions etc.
>Drawing methods, study habits, resources, tutorials, tools, software, etc
>Be specific and try to post a sample of your study attempts before asking for help.

**Draw copies from good anime styled references to mindfully up our mileage, internalize appealing aesthetics, and learn from each other’s processes and knowledge.**

you'll get there, anon

it's evident that you have passion, that counts for a lot more compared to just solely focusing on studying

if i can give you one tip out of anything; don't let go of the wonder and joy when creating

I got bogged down in studying pretty much everything, and as a result inspiration, imagination and passion died. It's recovering now but treating art like a job or a chore is a dangerous mindset to have. Just keep going and don't stagnate with one thing/style/medium

if you're happy with what you create, cherish it, and aim to make something even better next time

i'd suggest a grab bag of everything

it's fun for me to study masters and see the great chasm of skill between them and me, and i use it as drive to do better and learn more despite not really doing the studies well most of the time

so to say you should only stick to the beginner stuff is just putting you in the slow gear of sorts, feel free to tackle anything you wish, for the harsher the task the greater the knowledge gained from it

fundamentals are very important, and definitely the sticky and anons here have plenty of resources for the general path of development, also don't skip on perspective as most seem to do, it's a crucial piece to make it all look proportional and in place

unironically just have fun with it, i understand it's disheartening to fail at understanding something, putting in hours and seeing no progress or little, having nothing to show for it but frustration due to not understanding -- but at one point things will just sort of click within your mind, and once that happens its with you forever or till you actively change it, so even the hours of misery are important on the path for those are the hours one must put behind them in order to progress

there are pitfalls of doing advanced stuff early, mainly symbol drawing, but i believe if you are actively working on trying to understand and progress you will not stay in that pitfal for long

I'm planning on going hard on anime studies because my characters in general are pretty unappealing. Made this sketch completely from imagination to remember where I'm starting from. I'll make another one every month to gauge my progress. Right off the bat I'd say some proportions like the head and arms feel a bit wrong, I have no idea how hands, legs and feet work and my shading skills are non-existant.

I am not too good of an artist myself so excuse me if I am not the one to answer this, but I don't like seeing earnest requests get no replies.
In your picture you asked about the chest area. I think when drawing the chest you have to consider the anatomy when the character is in movement. Lifting the arms will affect the chest muscles. I don't really see that in your picture. Also the right arm feels odd, maybe move it a bit forward.
About folds I would recommend watching pin2d series on folds. Might help. Folds are hard I also am still learning them.

maybe try to soften the edges more on the belly-buttonshadow side, using lighter shadow tones and define the forms, i always use different references so i can kind of guess where to put the shadows

G-pen used to confuse me as well, but then i realized that its strength is LITERALLY just that you can make both super thin and super thick lines. nothing more, nothing less.

learn to play with curves and the brush engine. try turning off size pressure jitter and use starting and ending for the auto taper. velocity jitter can also help with something like 30-50 percent minimum size jitter.

my main line brushes are custom ones i've made by modifying the defaults or creating my own tips. i've made most of them act like photoshop rounds. don't worry about line weight that much, it's really hard to get the weights you want with digital. the easiest ways are erasing to get what you want or lowering the jitter a lot so the lines are more consistent.

i like this a lot as a pencil, linework, and even as an airbrush

little funny though that the rabbit's reasoning is "if it's carrying the weight of two passengers we will not have enough power" when it could have stayed small in the first place and that should have worked? maybe it's just evil, and in the next chapter after it gets defeated it will get saved after turning small again, otherwise it's cool!

you really should do some time in gesture. that will also help you understand this pose better.
notice how her upper body is completely leaning back in the image and yet you tried to make her push her ribcage forward which resulted in more of an S-curve pose.

as for anatomy:
the armpits are wack. remember the muscles that connect the arm to the body. from the front you got the delts and the pecs (which you drew, but a bit high imo), and from the back you have the delts and all the other muscles that come from the shoulderblade (and the lats, although they're not always prominent). you didn't draw those.

if you want to draw cooer art and get noticed you need to be actually good at anatomy because coomers wont coom to shit art when theres things 9999 better out there, so they are used to hq art, if coom art is what you want ofc, saying that you need a ton of loomis, use refs and grind your boxes for perspective/construction.

it's definitely the right approach. at least in my opinion. but you need to learn other angles as well, but this is a start.

although this is the right approach, this isn't necessarily as easy as it sounds. for example you drew the eyes a lot larger than the reference. they are a lot narrower.

in the ref you an stack maybe 5-6 eyes to fill up the face below, in yours you can do 4 at most.
being able to judge distances and proportions correctly is a fundamental skill that needs to be trained.

>> No.4877794

i get it, but you were trying to figure out the style, right? isn't that the point?
i'm saying that even if you set those guidelines, the result can vary because there is a lot of information that is still missing (like the "height" of the eyes i mentioned in my example)

Well, you just corrected yourself there.

>>4879065
Too much variety in the line thickness I think, and also the lines overall should be a little thicker.

If this is one of your first drawings you should be able to make it.

>>4876647
smol eyes I think. Hands could be sized a tad up. And her left hand is just wrong.

The drawing looks very good at first sight, so that's a really good thing, but without coloring, the lines are hard to read. Even a very simple and fast flat color would help I think.

>>4876516
The drawing needs to be progressed into a further stage to do a proper critique.

>>4876424
Doing the pose and looking at my own deltoid it 's a bit wrong but it's in a grey area I would say.

>>4876092
Good except for the face. I think the feet would look better if they were a bit smaller. But maybe those are sneakers.

Tits are a bit too saggy for my taste. iirc torpedo tits are genetically the most attractive, but I have doubts if this is true in the context of general anime stylization.

Regarding her left hand pose, I guess it could pass but I don't think that's a "natural" pose. If you would ask some girl on the street to pose, she wouldn't hold her hand like that.

But I get it hands are quite a bitch to draw.

>>4876055
Probably not, I think her left leg would twist more towards the viewer, but let's be honest you don't need to have every drawing 100% anatomically correct. And her right foot to leg area is incorrect, but that doesn't matter as much because the overall "flow" is correct enough I guess.

Correct enough to get internet likes and people to commission him I think.
