I am in no way bragging or making this sound like it is cool but I went to school with a friend who in our class we became friends and artists and as soon as he hit probably 20,000 followers on Twitter he basically almost broke off contact with me and doesn’t even answer my text anymore and would rather stream and talk with his followers than his real friend. Meanwhile I actually have made friends with Internet and YouTube creators and animators whom I talk to more.

The moral of the story is it depends on how and what kind of person people are if they get followers and get a massive ego they are assholes if they have a follower and a fan base and they are just normal people it’s nice. I just miss my friend and thanks to twitter and his ego I lost him.

I don't think this is all that possible unless you knew them early on. I used to have some friends with 100,000+ followers on deviantart (this was back around 2010), and I was only friends with them because we were friends early on, I even had a relationship with one of them.
that said, I feel like many people with large followings can be quite narcistic and dismissive towards those "below" them, and the few who are genuinely humble are just overwhelmed and cannot keep up with people constantly trying to get in touch.

Also, you shouldn't want to be friends with someone just because they are popular, this will make you appear disingenuous in their eyes, so they will just dismiss you. When you have a large following, it is difficult to discern who is genuine and who is just trying to use you for their own benefit.

It's a popularity thing. It'll happen to you too, if you ever become popular. Suddenly new experiences open up to you, a whole new category of people want to hang out with you and you realise maybe your old friends were just some losers you settled for back when you were a loser too. It also helps the personality transformation the first few times those 'old friends' start trying to take advantage of your new success, and then you realise they're just leeches who only ever cared about what experiences they could get from you, rather than you as a person.

Class, caste, race, tribe, creed... all these categories are very real, and your social circle is largely determined by them. When you shift from one category to another, things you thought were stable and reliable will suddenly be anything but.
