How do you draw without being distracted by the internet, video games, porn, etc?

Murder your nearest landlord & go to jail.
Except not in America, I don't think prisoners are even allowed books these days.

What would be the best country to do this in, Norway? Some prison systems actually seem comfier than normal life, no need to work 8 hours a day, don't have to pay rent, they bring you your meals, you get a decent selection of books, etc. You could just grind and draw all day with no distractions.

Why not buy a small shed, erect it in your garden, and try living in it for a week. Then you test what prison life is like without committing.

Talking about how movies set up unrealistic expectations.
Guys in movies always be drawing photoreal images from scratch with no ref used whatsoever.

Painting from life in prison? Concrete walls and iron bars today. And all other days as well.

I'm bad at it, but I've been trying to commit to pomdoro sessions lately.

Set up a 25 min timer and commit to it. If you need to, get an internet blocker for that amount of time. Have some sort of reward (or punishment) for each session you complete/fail.

I find once you start getting used to it, you get better at disregarding that 'itch' to distract yourself. I think the brain naturally probes you during any challenging/mentally taxing task to go "You could just not, and do something easier instead", but once you start recognizing that probe and realizing it goes away if you don't indulge it, it gets a lot easier. Usually I find the 'flow' state only comes after you've resisted that distraction impulse and your brain acknowledges you're on the hook for the duration you set for yourself.

Meditation is also a helpful exercise for developing that discipline and awareness of when your train of thought is being derailed, and deliberately refocusing it.

Also just have realistic expectations. If you can't even do 30 minutes, what makes you think you'll be able to do 5 hours?

Make all that bullshit the end of your day, or just admit you aren't built for this and quit art forever like a weak little bitch
