It was a long process but a fun one, I don't see how people can pop up any design and just call them a character. For me, I have to build a lot of backstory, the place where they are from, and where are they going. This helps me define not only their looks, but also makes it fit with their aesthetic. the model is good, but you're missing some of the typical characteristics that appeal to furries. enlongen that muzzle a bit more, add a boopable nose, and probably tone back on some of the fur detail, especially on the ears. Generally furry art foregoes detail in favor of simplified textures that are easier to read, especially in 3D work.

also feel free to take a look at some other popular furry 3D artists like ruaidri to take a look at the stylistic choices they made. There are a bunch of 3D models of isabelle as well, take a look at the popular ones and use that to your advantage.

I really appreciate the feedback, those are some pretty fast edits I can make. Toning down the follicle width and reducing fur clumping would make it more stylistically in line. I really wanted to go for the Pixar treatment in terms of detail, since I haven't seen anyone do that before. I can replace the eyes too, something with more depth. I'll repost it later today :)

Like you said, I think the eyes still need some work. I don't do a lot of 3D stuff so I can't give you too many pointers, but if I had to guess I'd say decrease the reflectivity somewhat and add some eyelids. They almost look like they're about to roll out the sides, so maybe try recessing them into the socket a bit more too.

Look up some animals on wikipedia and youtube and see how they act.
Animals that hunt in packs or have a herd I would put under more sociable fursonas while ones that don't will be the less sociable fursonas. You can narrow it down further once you have a general species by its breed like how dogs have quite different personalities depending on its breed.
Looking at animals in general will also give you a better idea of what you like and dislike which will help you narrow it down.

If I were to suggest areas to improve, I’d say look at line control guides to see how to improve readability of your forms. Make the line thickness work for you and not detract from the image.

Does anybody have any insight into designing clothing for feral/quadrupeds? What little is out there seems to just slap human clothes on them, not considering natural angles of view or mobility.

It's only gotten weirder, less appealing and less like any other kind of anthro character. Not appealing to furries, doubly not appealing to normies. "Iconic" if the objective is grossing people out, maybe, because all that stands out about it is how creepy it is.
The main thing is the eyes. They appear as though they're below halfway down the face which is abnormal for any regular face but doubly abnormal for an animal. They're glassy, which is again something you want to avoid in any kind of 3D (Light has to reach the retina for eyes to work properly, y'know) and all the features are visibly caved in around them. They're also way too huge, and seem to be sitting on the sides of the head. The decision to use photorealistic rendering and fur sim accentuates all of the anatomical weirdness and makes it look like a deformed rabbit which is likely to activate an instinctual kind of revulsion in most people. Despite being smoothed out the fur also still looks matted up here and there which contributes to the sick animal look, but also the way in which it's smoothed out is unnatural too. I can tell it's probably Blender fur sim because Blender grooming is always fucked up looking in this exact, simultaneously too perfect and too clumpy sort of way for whatever reason.
I don't have any suggestions that don't involve scrapping it and looking at what normal cartoony 3D animators use to make their stuff not look weird. One of the things that tends to be done is, if a character has huge cartoony eyes, they aren't made to be perfect spheres so they can fit on while still preserving the other cartoony dimensions of the face. Maybe if the eyes were in a more natural place that'd fix it but I wouldn't count on it. The body is probably fine.

furry art implies a deviant sexual nature to loving the anthromporphosied elements of animals. injecting fetishes and a degenerate identity at the expense of your mental health is a perfect way to describe them and nearly everybody who calls themselves a furry is usually heavily influenced by shit like Disney or Warner Bros cartoons or StarFox, and other junk that is entirely made for consumerist appeal. mix the branding in with such a mess of a community with no real identity aside from doing the grossest shit possible, and you get furries.

now, ANTHRO ARTISTS, on the other hand, are a different kettle. most like the potential the furry community has in terms of artistic talent but most hate it because of how disgusting its deviancy is. so many just either hang around hoping for nice out or just drop out altogether to get away from the fucking weirdos.
if they do hang around however, its usually more in appreciation for the more SFW side of the anthro art. some might poke at the deviancy in jest but most of them would have upbringings in anthro media that doesn't entirely revolve around consumer media. most inspiration would come from mythology and ancient folktales across places like Europe and Asia and would see anthros in a more bestial manner and seperate from humans as a whole, to the point where they look at it in a more mystical and cultural manner, full of complexities that only a true devoted anthrofag would even care about. best way of describing them is that they enjoy what anthro art is capable of expressing but a lot of them are revolted at what the deviancy can entail.

at the end of the day though, both are still furfags. but its important to be able to differentiate at the same time.

One thing I noticed is that the more cartoony and exaggerated it looks, especially in the figure drawing department, the more painfully furry it comes across. It just comes across as really sleazy.
Anthroshit is still furshit, but when you define anthro by its literary means, it has a more solid basis in art that dates far further back in time, to the point its treated with a more sacred respect, and it isn't a complete gateway to being as disgusting as possible. Such practices in medias of art were originally used to help humanity find a more spiritual/emotional connection to their mentality to help them settle into their lands.
I guess in some way, you could say its still furshit, but in the modern context, the furry shit you see lately is a very severe bastardisation of what was originally a highly revered subject in the humanities.

their imagination, usually. and and appealing artstyle and creativity that can branch out in many different categories. anything else that doesn't involve spiralling your mind out of control? well, it can help telling interesting stories and help people reconnect with nature and other aspects of life that would be harder to understand if it was done entirely through the eyes of a human. theres lots of things we dont really understand out there so tapping into the anthro market can be quite valuable. wouldnt surprise me if people very high up have realised this too and it might even explain how bad its gotten lately..
also, i dont get myself too involved in it because its gotten far too autistic to properly enjoy anymore. everyone genuinely seems to use it as a way of escaping reality these days instead of using it as an asset to help them to become better humans. shame.
