used to be in awe about algenpflegers stuff when i started my journey. the first thing i noticed over the years was that his anatomy looked way off more often, also he got sloppy with his rendering, at least in comparison to his rather tight earlier stuff.

i'm still a fan and in the recent years i always found his art at times were great again imho.

not blaming him, hard to stay that consistent when you started so strong. we're all h00mans in the end.

the 2nd artist that comes to mind is noah bradley. he had a period with awesome, fledged out fantasy environments. than his output became more lazy low effort color experiments where you could read a scenery into it, if you wanted. idk.

None of the ones I used to like a lot have particularly gotten worse (though they're a bit stagnated) but It's hard to follow and look up to artists online these days when they're very aggressive and hostile about posting their political beliefs and moral views everywhere, especially when they also use their art as a vehicle for it. I know and believe that everyone has a right to believe what they want even if I don't agree with them but I can't comfortably support an artist if they often spout a nasty attitude and engage in openly mocking others for not supporting their beliefs and causes while also claiming to be of a morally pure and superior mind. Gay stuff is the best known example but there was an artist who never associated with that stuff that I admired a like who ended up developing a rather nasty attitude on romance/religion/etc due to understandably bitter experiences and couldn't help lashing out or shaming others who didn't share his mindset on it. I wish I could just ignore the artists and enjoy their work but social media prevents that since that's where most the art is these days, mixed in with mobile game screenshots and why artists actively pushing the issue (or arguably non issue) of the month.

I have a friend whose art in recent years has been getting worse, and yet they think it's the best work they've ever done and are often complaining about why no one is liking it on twitter, etc.

We always used to joke together about other artists whose progress was stagnant or even going backwards but now I think they're one of them and I'm not sure how I could let them know without being an asshole.
