I'm a beg, but I struggle to create good looking buildings for instance. I'm interested in the subject but perspective mistakes get really obvious when you're working with relatively straightforward lines while with a character you can fuck a bunch up and it still kind of works.

board used to be good, we had oil, en plein air, etc threads. Draw threads and sketchbooks got good traffic and were the main generals of the board. Good advice from pros, actual critique. Anime was pretty much banned. When the anime thread was allowed everyone thought it would be a slippery slope attracting all the coomers. Draw a perspective square with midpoints, and check that the ellipse meets at the midpoints.
At each midpoint the gradient of the ellipse at that point should be the same as the gradient of the line. This was a big lightbulb moment for me, Scott doesn't explain this well in the book.

Unironically, this board is around age of 16-20, and majority is casuals simply doodling anime or other entertainment. I'm still beg but many people here are locked in eternal beg mentality and others move on quickly. I moved towards design as that's where jobs are. I've been posting on /ic/ since 2013 (stopped posting for a year here and there) and the board quality has declined greatly. Study threads used to be very regular and would get a huge amount of replies of people actually drawing, painting, and critiquing. Now maybe 10 people post their work and all the replies are just asking for blogs or making fun of people. It's awful

that isn't quite true, though. perspective center != true center when you're dealing with ellipses. perspective center is usually in front of true center (look pic related).

scott doesn't do a very good job of explaining this, but i think it is what he's trying to get across on pages 72 and 73. he illustrates that only a single True Ellipse can fit perfectly into any boundary, and if you look at the illustrations, it's clear that perspective center is ahead of true center.

It's not that the majority of people who have ever visited /ic/ are depressed, ngmi cumbrains, it's just that those people stay here forever in an endless cycle.
Trad /beg/s stop by here for advice initially, actually get good and then move on from this shithole.

I only come here when I'm feeling bored or depressed. When I'm busy making art or feeling good about life I have no desire to come here at all. Browsing here seems far more boring that making art at those times.
