Hi /ic/, I'm going to be posting my drawing progress from 0 to pro for the next year or so in a chain thread. I do have some drawing experience already, but I haven't been drawing much all year so this is my motivation and accountability.

I'll post later. All drawings will be archived in my mega drive: https://mega.nz/folder/r1FjXAxb#Bw0K6S_PWzTdt-qun4KbIQ

I should clarify, I'm going to be doing this kind of thing (tracking progress on 4chan) for a year to see if it'll get me motivated to improve. Not necessarily going pro in a year. I will however give up in 4 years and pick up another hobby if I don't "make it".

Mostly Huston's book and his figure drawing sessions at NMA. I read Hampton's gesture chapter but it didn't really click until I was done with Huston, but try watching his (Hampton) gesture lecture on YouTube, I think it's great. Make sure your observational drawing skills are good before starting, I see many /beg/s jump into figure drawing way too fast and struggle with proportions or not pushing the pose enough. Every now and then choose a pose you really like and try to draw it's gesture without time limit, taking your time when doing gestures seems to be underrated.

What I found most helpful for observational drawing was Iten's accuracy guide. I only skimmed through Keys to drawing but I think that's a good book as well. Iten recently had a stream where he teaches some exercises to improve your accuracy.
I've also heard that it's best to start with subjects that allow for a relatively large margin of error to build confidence and get into the habit of drawing.

Iten's latest stream https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3rsQyANBobc
Feng talking about sketching subject difficulty https://youtu.be/22XYoenU-0c?t=637

Keep in mind I'm self-taught, so idk if any of this is right, maybe going to an atelier and doing still lives would be better, I'm just saying what I found useful. Good luck, anon.
