4811550 No.4811550 [Reply] [Original]

This is a thread to discuss all kinds of digital drawing hardware: non-display graphics tablets, pen display tablets, portable tablets and more.

>What should I buy?
State your:
>Budget
>Location
>Type (display? non-display? portable?)
>Size (in inches)
>Other information
>Previous equipment

If you have any additional questions, ask them.

>Recommended tablets:

Intuos Pro 2013 - Great value, and the nibs won't wear out in 5 seconds like they do on the newer model.
Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite - Budget portable display tablet. Very solid drawing experience with Wacom EMR tech.
Used iPad Pro 2nd Gen 12.9" - Best option for a display tablet.
Used Cintiq 22HD - The only worthwhile large display tablet
Wait for the Galaxy Tab S7+

>Avoid:

Cintiq Pro - Terrible value. The drawing experience might be good, but you're paying way too much for an unreliable product. Dead pixels are frequent, as are black screens of death.
Microsoft Surface Pro - The N-Trig digitizer means you will always get wobbly lines.
Huion, XP-Pen, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand - Poor build quality, lackluster pens, bad tilt, horrible customer support and the displays are not calibrated. All Chinese brands are basically the same because they're all centralized under the communist regime. Also watch out, Chinese Companies are known to shill aggressively, even on 4chan.
Lenovo - Bad drawing performance.

Wacom will always have one massive advantage over chink garbage: pen quality.
The Wacom Pro Pen is far better built and designed than all the chinkshit pens, which are all made by Ugee. Wacom's pen handles tilt smoothly, has a nice firm nib and a consistent pressure curve that doesn't taper. Chink pens are shit at tilt, have a wobbly nipple nib and they taper in a bad way.

Why do you want a display tablet if back posture is a problem? One of the main benefits of screenless is good back posture, because you're not hunching over a display tablet.

The issue is i'm only having posture issues because my eyes are fucked. When drawing/painting traditionally i literally have the paper 10 inches from my face and i'm fine, but i have not yet found a PC setup that's comfortable enough for me to draw without straining either my eyes or my back.

And yes, my glasses are strong enough, the issue is neurological and can't be corrected without a surgery.

By the way, people still buy wacom because of name brand recognition. Back when wacom was Japanese made, it was sturdy and had a great reputation. Now they make their shit cheap and with planned obsolescence in mind, and keep getting sales because everyone still thinks they're the same quality they used to be back in the day. Many people will have their shit break on them and say "oh no i must have gotten a dud". Some switch to other brands because theyre pissed. There are others that would if they could find a new company at the level of wacom during their best years.

Hi /ic/
In the future I would like to upgrade from the old Intuos (PTH-651) to Cintiq Pro 24/32, assuming budget is not an issue, the reason is that I'm mentally tired of making micro adjustments from the fact that no matter how I try, the 1st or 2nd stroke will not be as I want.
Throughout the years, the surface of the Intuos is scratched heavily due to me applying relatively high pressure on it, see attached picture.
Is this an issue for Cintiq Pro line? Will I have to adjust my pressure if I make an upgrade?
Is there anything such as "Japan-made" Cintiq? Or everything is still manufactured in China (as most things right now)? Reading the previous posts in this thread, I assume that there are Wacom factories in Japan as well?

Personal preference, I have both and I feel like it's easier to coordinate my mind with my hand on a screen tablet, since you see physically where to start and where to stop.
Your mileage may vary.

>Any major difference as far as feel, and durability goes?
Depends on which tablet you use, there are a lot of surfaces, from smooth to paper-like, though price tends to go up with the latter.
Screenless tablet tend to be sturdier, a screen tablet has more things that can go wrong (color calibration, glass, parallax, etc).

>Can you use a screen tablet like a screenless if you wanted to?
Yes, with a normal screen tablet you could just duplicate monitor and look at the other one while you draw.

Tried drawing on it for shits and giggles and while it technically works, it fucking kills my wrist after about an hour. If youre looking for a cheap beginner tablet I'd recommend something with the active area around that of a piece of 8.5x11 or A4 paper. HS611 is good as long as you're not left handed.

>I heard CSP is laggy on s6, can you confirm?
Mine is the S6 lite, so it may not be that much on the S6, but if you draw slowly the cursor lags a bit, but it still completes the line okay. It doesn't bother me that much since I don't draw like that.

>Does it have all the features PC version does?
As far as I've tried, yes, you can even download materials and 3D models, and anything I have on PC, I can download it on Android. It also has shortcut keys on the right (you can hide them) and you can set them as you like.

>And how is the pen for you?

Okay, I finally had the chance to play with my Innovator 16.
As promised, here is my certified unbiased review:

THE BAD:
>Display
Substantial IPS glow and a small amount of backlight bleed in the corner. Unavoidable, but disappointing.
Also, it's fucking dim, Jim. 250 nits is wishful thinking, I would not enjoy using this with the lights on, let alone outside.
>Cables
Speaking of impossible to use outside, the hydra. It's fiddly and fucking annoying. They seemingly realized this and provided an extension cord for power, as if to acknowledge how much it sucks without fixing it.
It's also tough to plug the input cable in the display itself. It's just slightly too thick to fit.
>Drivers
Holy shit.
I tried to install the driver. Big fucking mistake, it broke almost all pen functionality. I can use it to right click (and curiously, it knows the position of the right click) and it can detect pressure. But it doesn't work as a pen.
Uninstalling my old Wacom drivers didn't work. Uninstalling the XP-Pen driver turns it back into a glorified mouse.
Occasionally it will blip into functionality for a minute.
The remaining commentary takes place within these brief moments of functionality.
>PARALLAX/Cursor Drift
There is a small, but noticeable gap between the tip of the cursor and the tip of the pen Especially on the left side.
You only get FOUR point calibration, so no surprise. This is the only big dealbreaker for me. Coming from Wacom Feel drivers makes this especially upsetting.
>Peripherals
The stand is a joke. The pen feels cheap. The wheel is fiddly and gay.

THE GOOD:
>Display
I'm not autistic about color so I don't see anything wrong. They probably aren't bad?
>Performance
IAF and pressure curve are fine. Once you get to drawing, it's quite good. I'd calibrate the resistor if I weren't still considering RMA
>Build Quality
It's lightweight, the buttons function

Overall not a complete lemon as I feared (other than the drivers)
You just might keep my money yet, Zhang.

Nice review thanks. As far as drivers go, talk to support about it. I dont know what OS you're running but on windows 10 it wouldn't fully install my drivers until I went through a shit ton of windows updates and reinstalled my drivers about 20 times until it finally worked.

>> No.4816584

>>4816555
Windows 10
I think it's working somewhat consistently now. I realized part of it might have been the power cord. The thing has a battery and WILL turn on even if it's not drawing enough power to use. Annoying.
It's been hard to diagnose the issue all around. XP-Pen's site doesn't have old drivers, which I can already tell is going to suck someday. And their support site is full of "works on my machine ;)" tier responses.
Now that it's working I'm genuinely impressed, don't get me wrong. There's nothing overly glaring about it.
So far that was an almost exhaustive list of things I found bad about it. If that's the worst I can come up with in a couple hours, I'm not gonna shit on it.

I just got an iPad Pro 12.9 second gen, previously only used a small screenless Genius tablet, if anyone has questions about it let me know

The main thing I would note about it is the baffling decision to use hard plastic nibs, the way the Pencil slides around the surface of the glass is completely unnatural and unintuitive and the resulting sounds are very unsatisfying, there's a learning curve to getting used to its behavior despite the seeming 1:1 pencil on paper experience, not what I would expect from such a pricey Apple product

Supposedly it can be helped by paper textured screen protectors, but they're pricey as well and wear down the nibs like crazy, which in turn are also very expensive to replace

So? Those are just reviews, and people with problems are always more likely to review than people who aren't.

How quickly nibs wear down is different from person to person. If you apply a lot of pressure when drawing, especially when shading or coloring, then yes, your nibs will likely wear down quicker. The same applies for literally every other nib on every other pen. On chinese tablets, the nib can even outright snap.

What do any of those have to do with Wacom post-2014? It's even telling you to avoid Cintiq Pros. And you're accusing OP of shilling for Wacom?

Retard. Chink shills would want any product manufactured in china to be sold, since that directly boosts their economy.

Just because you opted to buy handmedowns doesnt mean other people ought to. You didnt make a decision rational or intelligent enough to warrant imposing it on other people. I understand that you want to feel it was, which is probably why you encourage people to do the same. But second hand shit just isnt very valuable. Due to your incapacitating autism, you fail to see why your threads derail. Its not primarily because you're a wacom shill, which you are, (even if the products are second hand the brand itself gets empowered with each purchase), its because you maliciously misdirect actual artists (unlike yourself) into buying overpriced garbage (like you did) with absolutely no value on the basis of schizo tier pol bullshit that no one other than yourself cares about. I have a Tab S6 Lite, and it's good shit. Not as good as an iPad Pro, but still more than capable if you can adjust to the small form factor.

My main issues are the s-pen doesn't feel as nice as the apple pencil.
Unlike the pencil, it has a button which is nice, but the placement isn't great and it's hard to use efficiently.
It has tilt, but not many apps support it. Infinite Painter does, I think Krita does, but most other apps don't.

Also the S6 is basically the S6 Lite, except with a better CPU and an OLED screen.

Here's the Krita shortcuts:
>Space - pan
>Shift + space - rotate
>Ctrl+space zoom
>Shift - resize brush
>Ctrl - color picker
>Alt+Ctrl - pick from current layer
>Brush / eraser - the pen button
>Undo/redo - Ctrl+z.

I got the 2016 version and (even though i think it's pretty decent for beginners/doing light sketching like pic related) desu i can't say it's good enough to handle the more modern apps. For starter its OS maxed out at version 8.1, and most modern features/apps (like CSP for example) requires android 9.0 or higher. The 2014 one will be even more so

Your best bet is gonna be Cintiq venus (16") at exactly 600 bucks.
If you insists on going bigger there's XP-pen 22E/R (old, near obsolete tech) at 400-600ish bucks and the upcoming Kamvas 22/plus (unproven) at 400-500ish bucks. But yeah, you know how it is with that sort of stuffs

The 22R is rather new, the pen supports tilt and they used an OK display panel for it.
The glass is not bonded though.
Kamvas 22 non-plus is a rehash of their old ancient POS
22 Plus seems to be a killer on paper though, i'd be very interested in it if i was shopping for a tablet right now.
