Any.
And start from there.
Let's say, cat.
Then let your mind go free to start adding elements to it.
Where was the cat? Outside? Living room? Bedroom? Pet shop?
Add the element of cute girl to cat.
Is she the master? Or is the cat a cute cat girl?
What is the cat doing?
Etc etc.
You just gotta start somewhere and use it to expand your imagination.

I will give you one.

For body horror you need to learn a lot of anatomy and it helps to study things like tumors and strange diseases to learn how the body can get distorted irl. I dont know what level you're at but if youre /beg/ you're going to at the very least need to get into perspective, anatomy, gesture, and of course values and then color. Composition is key too so you can get the feeling you want across. For resources just check the sticky and art book links in threads, there's a lot of good shit. Everybody have their own ways of drawing gestures.
And /beg/s gonna point you to many different directions confusing you and still won't teach you how to draw gesture.
From what I saw, people just draw a nice looking figure and others praise it.
Despite breaking the supposing rules like using only CSI lines or no contour.

Just learn the basic about it, draw a few gestures as warm up exercises, wait until one day your brain click and you know how to do gesture.

So I tried to draw something and I messed up big time, at first I wanted the full picture and I planned for it, shoulders hand and head, by the time I was "darkening shapes" it had grown bigger, some things just weren't going to fit, I pushed on, added lines for facial features, had to revisit other lines, make the head wider, less space now, revisit neck area again, even less space now, no matter I keep on, and I step back and see that any hope of resemblance is lost, I add the cigar and mouth no longer deluded but in a state of complete despair, I push on, not because of the hope of something decent, not for the hope of improvement "practice for the next one" no, I push on because I can't bring myself to see the mistake, if I did I'd cry out as I try to identify what's wrong with me.

Nice job finishing your piece, good job

I would advice you to more more more figure drawing practice. the primary reason why your figure looks stiff is because people don't 'stand' like that without 'tensing' their muscles.

Try adopting her exact stance, (or him) and you'll feel very awkward indeed. Next time take a photo of yourself in the pose you want to try and use that as reference.

Play with the elements as well, hair is an amazing component of the body to juxtapose to indicate mood and also movement.

By the time I finished I had started to pull away from them and started to kind of understand that it's just the gesture is supposed to be used as an under layer for a final drawing. good artists show up occasionally. the biggest issue is that tons of femoids, third worlders, and people with borderline or other mental disorders chose art as their profession. and so begs usually get inundated with replies from these losers instead of good artists.

example: paco our hypothetical latin american friend, has a bad day and retreats home to his favela. he takes a shower with an electrically heated shower head and opens 4chan on his laptop from 2008 underneath a single flickering filament bulb. he leans against a haphazardly constructed mortar and brick wall on a wooden stool scrolling through /ic/ looking for threads to shill his shitty art accounts. he draws depraved fetish porn on his 20 dollar wacom bamboo so he can afford to buy illegally reproduced console games next time he goes to his third world bazaar. paco sees a beg thread while loading up /ic/ on page zero and a beginner is looking for advice with construction. paco flies into a rage and tells the beginner artist their art is awful and they should quit drawing forever. paco does this because like the rest of his countrymen, he only knows how to destroy and not create.

How long did you do each gesture?
It looks like you're too focus on the forms then the lines of action. The point of gestures it that they are suppose to be quick, you captures the rough image of the movement. That's why its called a gesture. The longer the time period the more you can spend on the form.
A gesture can be done in a few seconds to a few minutes.

>>4819279
Like others have said, start with construction and form with something like keys to drawing or drawabox, and once those make sense you can move on to gesture. Gestures revolve around finding a 'line of action' in the pose, and if you don't have a good understanding of how that line moves through the parts of the body then you won't get good looking gestures.

I like this a lot. Here’s what I see. The nose/keystone area should be overlapping the right eye more. When you look at the reference you barely see the lacrimal caruncle/tear duct of her eye, you fully draw it in. You also haven’t aligned her eye brows and ears.

There’s this idea called bracketing in figure drawing and it works for all the symmetric parts of the body. Essentially it just helps you remember things should be aligned in proportion. Look up Kirk Shinomoto’s short YouTube video on it. It should help with really ensuring you’re thinking about invisible horizontal wrapping lines that go across the face and align things on the same latitude, like pupils, eye brows, ears and the keystone of the nose etc.

She’s got a lot of appeal in the drawing. More than the photo. Good job

symbol drawing is when you take shortcuts and draw a symbolic representation of something instead of what it actually looks like in real life. For example, you might symbol draw a house as a box with a triangle on it instead of trying to draw a 3D realistic house. In your picture the face, hands, feet, and clothes were obviously symbol drawn which is why they look so flat.

If you read the first little bit of 'Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain', the author does a much better job of explaining what symbol drawing is and where it comes from. Good luck anon, and don't stop for anyone.
