Ranking developing artists against each other isn't healthy for anyone, whether it be art confidence or inflated egos. The benefits of a tier list doesn't need to be in the form of a tier list; There's no reason to be ranking anyone on anything besides where they were a few months ago. If you were to remove the tiers it wouldn't be any worse, meaning it adds no value other than a measuring contest.

I agree that tier lists are better than some of the topics that go on, but how different is it from:

What ever happened to the user of the day/thread? I wasn't a registered then, but I did notice there was a point where a user was mentioned and people could give thoughts anonymously when I checked out the thread now and again. Having someone maybe with a trip running all active users through a RNG(removing people as they get picked until everyone has a go) and featuring them as a topic for suggestions would be far better than any tier list.

If it really is about getting better, then thinking of ways to promote discussion would be more beneficial than an arbitrary placement; I don't see and benefit to the ranking part of tier lists. Just my two cents, this if the first time in a month or so checking the thread so I don't know how things have been.

Actually it helped me a lot, being placed higher than I thought I was really encouraged me to tackle other challenges as well. If it wasn't for tier lists I don't think I would join April Tier Tourney. What I learned there in turn helped me with starting to sell commissions.

Got this in just under 2 hours. I had a time limit and wanted to see what I could get done. The result is Ranger Tabes from We Bear Bears. I tried shifting my attention mostly on how to try and create shadows and shading based on perspective. I wouldve liked to try and see if I could've gotten any highlights on the skin but it is what it is. I still need to work on line weight and learning how to utilize multiple pen sizes.

I did 8 passes of lineart until I was satisfied. Then I spent the rest of my time carefully adjusting the shading and rendering.

I do everything by fingertips on my phone, so it takes longer just to get a "consistent" stroke or line. I also dont can't use the fill tool in my app because the result is always a botched blotchy mess, so I take my time filling it in manually. Basically the smaller things take a little more time than if I was using a pencil on paper or a stylus. just have basic reference. doesn't have to be the exact pose/angle whatever but at least you'll be able to see what eyes and breasts and shoulders look like, and you'll see how hair isn't a pillow shaded blob. i'm not trying to just roast you, but help you, but spending that long on a drawing where you only got better at drawing something shitty, you're not using that time wisely. i see you have your own approach, and I'm not all against working out your own unique way of approaching all the different aspects of drawing, but just save yourself the heartache and get some ref and follow some basic tutorials, don't go and waste precious time re-inventing the wheel.

Man. I do watch/read a lot of tutorials. I have the whole new masters academy and a lot of CGMA courses and I go through them one by one. I went through dynamic sketching etc. I just couldn't draw at all a year ago. Idk. what you guys expect from someone who never touched a pencil until a year ago. It takes practice to get good and that's what we're here for .
