I'm certain that it's a female artist..,they are the masters of intermediate expressions. They're able to draw a face before it has formed any kind of idea or conception. I think the best example of this is Lynn Johnson. She's terrific at characterization but you can find characters who have the utmost veracity who seem to be living outside of the platonic, textual world. It's a different conception of of life that's superbly rendered. I never read her work while it was appearing in newspapers but it's clear that she's one of the best female cartoonists.
