Anyways, there's improvement in the piece you posted but it feels like you're not really grinding the fundamentals enough. The more you grind, the easier it becomes to draw solid pieces and quickly.

Attached is a painting experiment I did of Artorias the abyss walker from ds1. Didn't copy an image--just used refs and some imagination.

Although I hate all of the negative space and the floating hear aspect; it just started out as a doodle because I wanted to draw his helmet, then I ended up pushing it way further. Plus the overall helmet shape is wrong(couldn't distinguish the shape in the ref bc of angle)but I just rolled with it since I'd rather finish it than to try and fix it.

Definitely made improvements in how I render armor, tho.

The skeleton is great, I like his head and glowy sword, and the overall composition is good. The red lines on the snake really flatten it (in a weird way because the scales are all rendered to some degree) and are very stiff.

The symbols on the flag are very lazy: just paint over them after you warp them.

The signatures and symbols are over the top and disgusting and distracting.

just keep doing your thing, you have a good start in rendering and I like the forms in the hands and hair shapes. Your faces aren't bad but the nose is a bit long, mouths could be moved up a tad as well.

I would spend some time working in grayscale to practice values, at first I would get in the habit of working with higher contrast than your used to, even if it seems too high contrast (which it might be at first but you're currently too low on contrast and need to re balance). it'll help you with seeing values better. I used to paint similarly and had to repeatedly force myself to increase contrast (even though I was going for a subtle/soft look I was doing it wrong) and eventually I gained a better understanding.

Some of the branch and the chest are nice, much of it is pretty arbitrary, tail feathers and sections of the wing are clunky and much of the head is just overworked and has a laborious quality. Beak and foot are just off and lazily done.

The tiny brushstrokes on the face are pretty distracting and kind of add to a diseased look (along with the deadened color, but that might work out in the end).
