Why is this considered okay? Is art school seriously just a place for adult children to "express" themselves?

There is an overarching Marxist agenda of equity.
The concept of equity is that everybody deserves the same regardless of skill, talent or hard work. If somebody is a lazy drooling retard with cerebral palsy they deserve to have equal outcome to the best and most talented masters of art.

Why would anyone go to artschool when you have acess to the resources thread lmao.

I spent 6 years on 3 courses working up to my degree in an art college. All the lecturers are mostly incompetent, it's why they went into teaching rather than having successful careers in the industry.
The only benefit of getting a degree is to start a career in your particular field, yes you can do the same if you have a nice portfolio, but big wigs value what's on your resumé more in some cases, and none of it matters if you're competing against someone who has a family member already in the industry, nepotism trumps all.

Seriously what do these people do with a worthless degree and tons of debt? I can see it's just a hobby course for the rich people but what about those who expect to get a job afterwards?

They become poor and work shitty barista jobs. Occasionally they become Cesar Santos.

i was offered a half scholorship to a fine art course at the chelsea art school in london.
i turned it down after i went there to look around and realised how bad "art" is now.

this is what happens when you grow up in the city and anything bad you do isn't bad because its just your own

if you painted like this in the shithole i grew up in you'd be called a downie retard and either strive to get better or just quit

This is the end result of the participation award culture, robbing the self deluded dummies for their money and without a path forward post college.

look at famous artists of the past movements, they all got there by being pioneers of some technique. if you seek to be remembered in art, you need to break ground. you need to explore, experiment, tear down.

there's different types of academia. For example, in Italy public academies are all traditional, in philosophy and teaching. There you learn anatomy, materials and techniques. Most people who go to those are interested in restoration or replica painting (even frescos are making a comeback, they're requested by high class restaurants and hotels). Private schools, which are often focused on post-modern or industry art (animation, comics) are more to build connections with colleagues, agencies, critics, and gallery owners/investors.

But if you're outgoing, what do you need artschool for?
