Lads, I've been practicing a lot drawing with paper, but it's not transferring to my digital art as much as I'd like. My lines with physical ink are 100x better than what comes out on my tablet. I'm very much /beg/ and not great in any sense, but I do notice a *huge* difference when I draw on actual paper.

I've heard that 'drawing is drawing', but is there more to it than that? I also heard that electric guitar and acoustic were basically the same thing, but when I was a beginner with that I found them way more different than people told me.

Should I just focus more on digital?

I believe that's an optional challenging exercise, and you're supposed to choose and angle very close to that of the original drawing. See Huston's example. Give it a try just for fun but don't worry too much about it and keep going. Drawing structure and cross countours over your reference is much more important to practice imo.

my favorite resources so far

anatomy - gottfried bammes & anatomy4sculptors

head drawing - loomis(drawing the heads and hands) and doing a ton of head & skull studies.

perspective - erik olson. i wish i never wasted a single second reading nordling/scott robertson.

been drawing since a kid, mostly copying anime & manga, doodling in class, etc.

The first time I ever tried to improve was during summer when I was 15 found a pdf of loomis and bridgeman, just copied the drawings in there but it was my first introduction to fundamentals and construction.

His mouth placement guidelines are different in every example. Sometimes he measures from the bottom of the lower lip, sometimes from the parting. Many of his example balls dont even have mouth lines. Some of his guide lines show the lips only being as wide as the nose. Loomis can get away with it because he's a professional artist. Begs can't because they don't have drawing a good head ingrained already to override the programming in cases when the loomis ball doesn't work.

5h evey weekend with at least 2h of them dedicated to study probably 1 year or less(10months) to get the basics down

now if you only do studies and pump these 5h to 8 probably in 6 months or a little less

now to get good at whatever your goal is idk im not there but i have seen the progrees of a lot of people and their style doesnt progress that much every year lets say it goes from 10 at their peak to 11 then 12 and so on it's not much.

the biggest factor to learn when you are a total beg is if your program is efficient or not and you are not wasting time doing things the wrong/slow way, you could study 10h but if they are 10h of drawing stuff that could be done in 2h if done better it's gonna be a drag

if its sloppy it will always look bad. to start you should try to draw with just two tones a light tone for light and a dark tone for shadow. later you can add more tones in the light area and mid tones. you should have the most variation in tone where the light translations into shadow, have little variation in the light, and no variation in shadow to make them flat.

yes, but also the way that the lower leg/arm overlap the upper leg/arm as well their shape. pic related is a example of I am talking about.
