Am I too stupid for even loomis? I see these doohinkuses in fun with a pencil basically go from random circles and spheres to detailed illustrations in one frame and it gets a bit much to copy.

Same for a lot of the later chapters about things like light, perspective, and etc, it goes from nothing to everything in a flash.

Didnt have this much of a problem with perspective made easy.

At your level, you shouldn't care about being clean and neat (though you definitely need to start avoiding chicken scratching) and definitely shouldn't be trying to use a ruler for a sketch. What you need to do is learn construction and to understand form - right now you're just drawing an outline. Do Loomis and Vilppu if you want to improve. You're simply not at a level where you can get proper criticism.

Think using keywords and correlate it on which method would best convey it. The rock's outline is "sharp", so a thin and bold pen-like tool is used. The rock's main surface is "dusty", so a wide, grainy, light tool is used.

The pillow is soft, cottony, and cloud-like, so despite having sharp creases with a regular pillowcase, a soft and cloudy tool is used to envelope how it should feel on touch.

Plastic is surprisingly complex and can take on many forms. Grocery bags to cigarette butts, it just takes on many forms. Plastic bags aren't really hard nor soft, maybe crinkly? Cloth too, it can be light microfiber, all the way to extra-large thick towels. The reason why your rock/pillow texture is obvious is because the object is obvious.

Start with simple, obvious textures (hard, soft) and work with there. And even with the complexity of your material, I doubt you "failed" as much as you said you did anyway.

>>4761640
You kept a lot of your gains, especially your confidence with simplicity. That Travis Touchdown looking motherfucker sketch is sharp too, if that's not a copy you're already set on imagination. I wish I had your degree, lad. You already have more software confidence then most of us, especially with non-art related software.

You need to recognize the talents and trades you have and start applying them together, as well as planning ahead for newer skills you believe you'll achieve. For example, I have some basic modding knowledge and I'd love to make a simple platformer game if I ever get good enough with art to get into animation. Maybe you could make a farming simulator game about weird alien plants shipped from various planets, some carnivorous or whatever, and you have to manage their coexistence. Kinda like Insaniquarium or Zoo Tycoon. Have some high-school science material in there too, like basic chemistry to work as a game mechanic.

Or a plant girl dating sim, that works too.

Nice

Metal is reflective and requires more knowledge about shading than just simple hatching to work right. The paper really should just be an outline when you think about what you're drawing on. As for the cup and hairband, those again are plastic, which could have any number of reflectivity, softness, or overall complexity.

If you drew all 4 on a single page, use a page per object next time and draw bigger. Texture and feel needs a lot of space to express itself.

You're A FUCKING FAGGOT man. Literally every post is just rambling about how much you suck, then you ask others to ptw, they do and you rage about being worse. Comparing yourself to others is idiotic, you're only setting up yourself for disappointment. This isn't a competition, everyone grows at their own rate. I've been wanting to draw cartoons since my childhood but during my teens I lost all hope because I compared myself constantly and eventually gave up. This mindset is poison, you need to enjoy drawing at your current level (which isn't even "bad" as you keep saying) so you won't get even more frustrated.

Also, go to a therapist. BPD is treatable.

Should I feel bad about this or am I not tracing as long as the drawing isn't directly over the ref? This is sort of a study so I can figure out proportions, but I wanted to do it in a way that seemed more fun to me, but I am also planning on posting this

>> No.4761899

>>4761886
When you're sight-sizing (drawing at a 1:1 scale) then it becomes extremely easy to get proportions right since you can just measure everything exactly. I think if you specifically want to practice proportions, try to draw larger than your reference. It's okay if they're not perfect as long as they aren't offensively wrong. You want to train your eye to see mistakes without having to rely on actual measurements.
