Should people use Hampton instead of Loomis nowadays? He is way more complete.

FIGURE DRAWING
>Prerequisite: Perspective
Well, you need perspective for everything(figure drawing)
So Yes
and
He is always updating his content

My advice would be to study figure drawing along with perspective

>see Michael Hampton videos
>think he is old as fuck like Vilppu and Huston
>actually he is a pretty chill guy
>he watches south park
>he does demonstrations using video game characters
>he even mentioned anime during proportions

People should watch Hampton's lectures instead of reading his book.

>> No.4738540

Loomis is a crash course for people who want to add figures to their drawings or want to be illustrators and. Hampton is for people whose drawings are going to be figures and want to have a better understanding of the human body to draw it more expressively. Just skim through Loomis after Hampton.

would you recommend them? i tried to read his book but i feel like he shut dumptext a lot of information in a little span of time and it's not clear at all when he explain things

I do think they're better if only because he actually uses pictures to show where the muscles attach to and what they look like from a couple of different views. There's also the fact that he works through some examples and he takes more time to explain things than in his book. I did struggle with drawing muscles once he got to leg anatomy, though, and had to supplement the lectures with Zarins' book. I'm not sure it's a good first figure drawing course for beginners but give it a try, and if you find it hard to follow consider Huston or Eviston, some people even find Vilppu more begfriendly. But do watch his gesture lecture, I think he explains and draws gesture very nicely.

i like hampton, but none of it matters cause i still draw like sheit

i think being AWARE of construction/anatomy is a good way to understand what's going on, when you encounter it in figure drawing.

Vanderpool is nice too.

I really don't get how his geture works. like does he still think about the spine even when he's drawing the front ?

>> No.4739002

Yes. Look at vilppu drawing manual book. The chapter on gestures. He learned from Vilppu after all. Vilppu wrote about thinking of the spine as well and shows a few simple examples.

The spine exists regardless of the angle you view the figure, anon
