the list is entirely my own subjective opinion of course but I valued soul over technical skill but that's of course extremely subjective. I also didn't value finished works over studies or anything because why should that matter? this is an 'art a day's site, not a professional portfolio website. to be fair, whiteboz does at least belong in B-A tier with ukulele which I'll change when I make the be new version.

but don't take this shit seriously. it's just for fun. I don't think people who I ranked lowly are bad artists, just less technically proficient. when I see stuff like uncanny faces, weird looking shading, etc, I tend to rank lower, even if they have other skills that are good. but humans are hard.

it's an interesting question though: is a tierlist mean spirited? is it better to rank the lower tiers to avoid being elitist and skipping people, or is it bad to do so because it's discouraging to less proficient artists?

also, what matters more, finished works? general skill? soul? art is subjective after all. should it be democratic? everyone votes on what tiers people belong to? that'd probably be the most accurate one, I guess.

In case you guys didn't see the last announcement (I'm fairly sure I mentioned this when we released ep. 1), this week had a few scheduling issued and we were not able to record. I'd very much like to try having one episode per week, roughly. But guest availability is not always that generous.
Another important bit of info is that I'm currently being handled by uni like Tang handles the characters in his commissions. So this week I'll be, with some luck, only able to record after Thursday. It's good to see someone remembers my take on tierlists.
I know I might be exigent on the matter, I'm just not fond of how many people take such half assed joke at best attempts at them with any seriousness and talk so much about "my tier is" or whatever without that holding any useful meaning that could steer them towards improvement in a meaningful way, other than "I should draw more".
Don't get me wrong though, I've seen some people try to put a bit of effort into them. And while I think their effort and consideration is nice, I still must say that it's not enough.

If you wanted to do a tier list that had any kind of use other than fun and running around a maypole of useless memes, first of all you'd require some structure, thought and defined guidelines on how you'd observe the work. And more importantly, have a set of criteria that's adequate to a person's goals and what it is they're trying to do.
I know you can't remove the idea of subjectivity. But any time methodology is brought into question you get a half assed response or deflection at best as to what criteria was the work judged under, so there's no way to claim the attempt is anything but someone giving out points on pictures they consider pretty. And not a minor detail is that no biases are ever stated (see >>4736137 to get an idea of how this could come into play)
Besides that, another important point, perhaps the most crucial even. Is the commitment to observation that the tierlist maker aspirant puts into the task. And it's likely my major point of contention with the matter. As I believe no honest attempts at serious observation have been made. Some have tried, but I don't think they have succeeded.

It'd probably be good to state that I'm not trying to say I am The One who could provide you the perfect and most well crafted tier list. But since last year I've spent some time here and there thinking about the issue. Mainly as a thought exercise on how could one approach to constructing the idea of the tierlist in the best and most useful way possible. I think a good way to get the consensus of tier rank for each dad is to create a google form document. For the answering, you have sliders having the options of:
S tier - inbetween - A tier - inbetween - B tier - inbetween - C tier - (and so on)

it's not really always from memory, just turning off the underlying image so I'm not just tracing it. I don't really look at the ref that much though once i'm at the stage where i'm just checking angles, because by then i can rationalize "I'm making the mouth constantly too horizontal and low, i really need to push the angle and follow the same angle as the brow..." or whatever.
So far I think this method is helping me a bit though, at least I think some of things I was TRYING to do previous to doing copies actually makes sense now. (I was constantly making faces too long, and i realized it's because i was constantly making the brow line too low on the base of the skull, which in turn made me make the lower half of the face too long...) I also realized early that a lot of artists put the base of the nose really close the mouth, and it just looks right. whenever I tried to do that previously, it just looked so off, now I realize it was because again, just because of that brow problem.

Not that anon but keep in mind that studies are a lot easier than original pieces. If you keep flipping and rotating to spot mistakes it will help make it look a lot better. You can also abuse liquify, cut and paste, rescale parts of your images and duplicating layers, modifying them and deleting bits etc to make it look better

Again, I'm not the person who made the tier list but in my opinion finished pieces is much more important for /int/ than for /beg/. Furthermore, trad can get super expensive/super time consuming to make finished pieces compared to digital (waiting for paint to dry etc) if it's not just coloured pencil so there are a lot of things to keep in mind. And if you decide to switch to digital later, specific THINGS carry on much better. Like for example line confidence. Whereas other things, like figuring out how to blend colours can be a major clusterfuck coming from trad.

Using a bias sorter might be a slightly more accurate way to do tierlist since it compares everyone against each other and we can somewhat avoid "why x is higher than y". It's still highly subjective but at least there will be some kind of logic behind it.

I do think you're on the right path but you really need more mileage and regular figure and gesture practice. Some of your figures are lookin kinda stiff, especially on the neck and shoulder area. Maybe reading Force might help your gestures and add some drapery practice on your routine as well.
Besides drawing from life, don't be afraid to copy stylizations from artists you like if you're going to push more stylized works.
