This random chick supposedly got up to that level with no prior experience in 6 months, and does commissions and shit. I don’t get it. Decent progress. Sounds like she spends a lot of time drawing (she admits to copying speedpaints and stuff) and has an art teacher. She's probably really young and really, when you're young, you have a ton of time to work on shit.
Also, she gets commissions because she plugs herself like crazy on posts looking for artists (just because she's taking commissions doesn't mean she gets a ton of them).

I don't think it's necessarily something you're born with as a girl, but it's definitely pushed onto girls more than guys. Guys are basically expected to look mostly clean. Girls are expected to look lovely, have a room that looks like it came out of a design magazine, even their penmanship has higher standards.

>is it that the animu style is just that much easier to fall back on than trying to come up with something more original?
And herein lies your real problem. Instead of being inspired by someone else's progress, you've convinced yourself that their progress is lesser because it's anime style. It is commonly accepted knowledge that people always exaggerate their success in life. They post only the most flattering selfies to social media. They blog, tweet, and facebook post images from their vacations that make their stay seem luxurious, they humblebrag about their job and show off wealth.

This is commonly accepted knowledge. Why would art progress be any different? It's very obvious 99% of art progression pictures are very flattering and the artist selects a very poor "before" image and selects an "after" image which they poured hours and hours polishing.

Stop falling for peoples stupid attempts to make their lives seem perfect. Stupid fucking FOMO culture.

anon this anatomy is totally fucked up. and again, these mistakes are being hidden with clothes, the neck, shoulder, torso, legs all are conveniently covered with clothing. drawing at this level is easily doable starting from day 1 , in maybe 6 months? at a very mild pace if you ignore every fundamental.

is this a joke or something? her right leg is just haphazardly floating in space. she made no attempt to draw it connected to the pelvis. her left leg is obscenely long and drawn in a goofy, weird perspective. her limbs are noodles, there is no definition in her left arm or left leg. shoulder placement makes no sense and her spine would have to be broken to possible connect to the pelvis, and that is not touching on the fact that her neck seems to be randomly attached to the center of her torso as opposed to where the spine would be.

Again, I really don't want to sound rude, but are you ESL or something? I didn't say anywhere, ever, at all, zilch, zero, nada, negatory at any point in any of my posts that you shouldn't do what these artists are doing.

Do what the fuck you want. I don't care. I'm not your dad. I'm not going to tell you what to do. I'm just describing events, telling you what happened. This reddit artist grinded cloth and rendering studies and anime eye tutorials and neglected everything else. Is that good? Is that bad? I don't give a fuck. I got other things to worry about.

How do you read my post and interpret that to mean I am saying that's bad? It's not bad. It's not good. It just is. On /ic/, intermed artists here try to funnel newbie artists into a certain path of gesture and anatomy and perspective because you're going to do that eventually anyway. It's universally accepted that those are key fundamentals for making good art. Do you want to do something different? Okay. Do something different. I don't give a fuck. You'll get to the same point eventually anyways.

It doesn't matter. None of this matters. Keep drawing, that's what matters. I don't know what you want to hear. Art isn't rocket science. Draw and you get better at it. Lots of normie/tumblr/reddit artists reach passable levels of anatomy and perspective then grind out anime eye tutorials. If you look at the art in this thread and want to replicate it, then do that. I don't care. But if you want some sage advice I will say you're gay if you draw art in the hopes of appealing to non-artists. Draw what you want to draw, don't be another basic bitch soulless freak who draws for social media likes.

I love you guys but when we have progress threads here on /ic/, the results are usually far worse and span across decades

People that drew 6h in 3 decades don't count though.

Its more like tangent than actual progress. I know, because I used to do the same thing when I was a teen- using digital programs to over-render and colorise my art, when I had a very poor understanding of form and general anatomy.
It looks impressive to the untrained eye, because they still "see" with the symbols-drawing method she's reproducing. But as time goes on, and they (hopefully*****) improve, they'll realize that very little in this drawing makes any actual sense.

Most of those 'reddit epic improvements' are just people tracing a reference. That's all.

I'd be more impressed by a barque plate or a still life. The way you know someone's leaving his /beg/ness behind is with proper measuring, edge control and color mixing. Copying anime a bit better is not real improvement.

don't worry about what others accomplish or how fast they progress. you are in competition only with yourself. If you improve, great, if not, fix what prevents you from improving and improve.

What is "/alt/"?
What is "drawing from imagination"?

Do you know why, Anon? It's because they're having fun and they actually love their artwork, and they actually enjoy the progress and not focused myopically on the goal. Look at how many people here are so depressed and either hate drawing or hate what they've drawn. I remember there was a video episode with Artgerm and he said ' no matter what love your art'.
