I struggle with drawing characters that are thin/twiggy. Every time I try, they end up looking like balloon animals. I don't have any complete attempts to post because I don't save files I don't finish/like.

Draw the sticks first to place the limbs and motion. Add meat later as needed. I bet you’re currently trying to add the volume at the same time you’re placing the limbs. Which is normal for a normal sized person and that’s what’s screwing you up.

I think to do this attractively, you first have to have a solid understanding for what the skeleton looks like. You will be drawing very little muscle and fat, so you will have to rely a lot on bone markers to portray the form of their body. There are also a few ways to go about it, more cartoony or more realistic. Gangly characters are also usually pretty youthful, usually depicting that growth spurt period of lanky youth. So you won't seem them with adult limb/torso/leg proportions usually for this reason, our brains would probably see that as weird.

Pretty much what the other Anons said about skeletal structure and low body fat, also if you're going for a more stylized look, notice that your picture and pic related both have elements that counter-balance the skinny silhouette: in both cases the shoes are very big and their torsos are inverted triangles with additional shapes. Jinx also has the large cone-shaped sleeves that make her hands appear larger than they actually are. Basically the shape/proportion variety makes the sticc silhouette much more appealing, kind of like mixing up curves vs straight lines when you draw figures.

I'm a shameless fatfag, but I am trying to make a character whose part of a team and is supposed to be thin like the image I started this thread with. Pic related is who I've been fixated on drawing for months now and has ruined my ability to draw anything else.

You are likely sausaging your figures and creating primarily convex body rhythms. Body rhythms need to be offset.

For slim characters i use to see the koji kumeta characters.

This thread is kino. Short torso and legs that go for miles. Atleast twice as long as the torso. Feet should be the size of the head

Anon, that is retarded. Simply just thinning a limb will not achieve the desired effect, you gotta do it from the ground up.
