Looks normal to me ... 4 years starting from literally nothing to ok-ish anatomy/posing/face construction/background.

This artist still has a ton of weak spots, probably needs another 4-5 to flesh out their art to actual commercial level.

This is the standard 8-10 year journey from absolute beg to polished pro art.

am i the only person who doesn't care about lens flare, chromatic abberation, bloom and DoF and other annoying post processing effects? it doesn't look good. I want to see the lineart.

I feel like tons of digital artists get to a passable anatomy level then grind rendering. because once you get some rendering tricks down you can turn middling anatomy and line art into something flashy

I see! That creates the same result as shading with a low opacity black layer set on multiply.
When you're picking a darker color to shade with, try increasing the saturation too, and not just darkness for a more pleasing result.

What he means is that the recent drawing has almost no technical hurdle to overcome. 2 hands and that's it.

Doing these kinds of progress comparisons is meaningless with super low technical shit like flat frontal angle headshots. Actual progress is going from a flat portrait to plotting an actual scene using perspective, action poses, background and props, and still retaining good aesthetic.
