IF YOU ARE A /BEG/INNER IN ART, please use this thread to post pieces for critique or ask for advice. We should not have to make new threads or post in the /draw/thread with our fundamental exercises.

Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make YOURSELF feel proud.

RESIZE YOUR IMAGES - try ~1000px, <1.1mb

TRY TO BE MORE ACTIVE AND GIVE PEOPLE SOME FEEDBACK - many studies are left unreplied, which is sad and can be quite demotivating for the people that try their best to improve, but are left directionless.

this is great! the torso is a little short and the legs are a little long, but thats something you can make work as a stylistic choice. also, keep in mind that larger women dont only accumulate fat around the tits and hips.
>>4675913
i dont really understand the style youre going for with this one. the colouring isn’t half bad but all the figures and especially their faces are so distorted and inconsistent in a way that doesn’t feel intentional. what are you aiming for here?
>>4675941
even if youre not super confident about where a project is going, its almost always better to see it through to the end rather than leaving it unfinished. studies are important but its not a crime to just draw something because you want to. this one looks excellent so far!
>>4675949
this one is promising as well, her expression is really sweet and you can tell her personality from it. the big issue im seeing is that the head and body are drawn in too different styles, the head being more chibi/anime and the body being more semi-realistic. do some digging to find a photo of what you think this character would look like irl and base her face/head shape off of whatever image you land on, or go full cartoon and play with the proportions of her body.
>>4675976
digital painting is extremely difficult so dont beat yourself up. for most styles i really dont reccommend drawing singular strands of hair or singular eyelashes, try to draw sections of hair as one singular shape.
>>4676022
this is the most obvious advice, but since it seems you already have a strong grasp on your style and art basics just study bodies until proportion and the placement of different body parts become second nature to you. studies will also improve your stylized work. websites like line of action and quickposes can help simulate what youd do in a figure drawing class.

I'll preface by saying I am by no means an expert, but a few things stood out to me. First being that her body is all twisted up. Her face points right, her torso to the left, then her legs back to the right. After flipping the pieces around I noticed her legs are also out of perspective with the rest. Her legs look like we're looking dead on at them whereas everything else is turned. There's multiple ways to fix all of this, either do what I edited it into which is having everything facing the same way, or alternatively you can have legs + torso facing one way and the head to the other. Or if you were going more for the body being straight on and the head being turned you could do that, but that would require you to redraw everything since her torso is turned.

Don't aim to get all of the contours correct in the first pass. Even with copying, create the rough, light sketch of where you think things are, and then carefully look at the image and make your decision lines. Your nose sticks out too much, the nostril is too small. Now that you notice these things, make the corrections as your final lines.

Why did you erase what you already had down dude? If you just flat out re-draw it you're not learning anything and just starting from scratch with no guide.

The curve between the bottom of the nose and the lip isn't long enough, the chin should protrude out more, and follow through more with your lines. You're not drawing a flat 2D image, you're trying to capture a 3D image on the 2D plane.

Think about everything you draw as having depth to it instead of trying to focus hard on the outline.

Honestly, nothing wrong with making it more twisty as long as you don’t go overboard. I’d rather have a dynamic pose that’s slightly wrong than a stiff pose that's entirely correct. With that said, something I’d recommend you do is look into drawing skinnier or muscular people - that way you can see the landmarks of the body i.e. hips, ribs, collarbone, etc. It also helps you practice musculature without needing to dive right into an anatomy course or book. Your reference has more fat on her body, and when you’re just starting off and don’t really have a feel for where everything goes on the body, that can throw off your final result.
Finally I’m just gonna make an assumption here so feel free to disregard if I’m wrong - have you mostly been practicing off anime faces? If so, stop that and start studying real faces, the features you see on an anime face are almost entirely derived from landmarks of a real face i.e. the curve on the right side of your girl’s face comes from the cheekbone on a real face. Knowing how these stylistic choices are made will help you better construct an anime face and, in the future, build on that to create your own style.

Don't make a goal with a high workload just do one thing at a time. Say if you want to practice gestures set how many gestures you want to do and then stop.

Simply plan out what you want to practice. I recently started doing this and it helped me a lot with drawing daily. I write down on a whiteboard what I want to accomplish that day. So mine for today is to watch Vilppu's gesture video, then just practice gesture drawings for 2 hours. After that, I can either stop or simply do some free drawing for fun or even keep going with more gesture practice. And like the other anons said, aim low initially, especially as a beginner. You aren't going to magically become a master of drawing in a matter of a few hours or days or anything like that. Another thing I do is save all of my work, no matter how bad it is. That way, you can look back in a month or two and see how much you've improved, even if it's only a little bit.

the perspective isnt great, that just takes practice though, youll get the hang of it with time. you fixed a lot of what looked wrong with the faces but what i meant mostly was that the way you draw figures is inconsistent even when you take into account that, obviously, not everyone looks exactly the same. for example. the size different between the black haired girls upper arm and the purple haired girls upper arm, when both characters look to have about the same bmi. also, none of your faces look like they were drawn in the same style.

I'm in week 2 in learning how to draw from 0 (i was doing really symbolics drawings that a kid would draw). I'm following a book, but i'm trying to work on faces. One of the face features that i really struggle is the nose, i cant quite capture the nose that i'm seeing and worst than that, they are all flat. How to improve on noses? How many shades of gray i need to make something feels 3d?
Thanks guys.

don't outline edges like you did on the right

your hatching also flattens the bridge of the nose

i think bit in between nostrils should be darker, as well as side of nose that is away from the light

also your shading doesn't really convey the roundness of parts of the nose. like the shaded left part of the bottom of the nose you made the whole part that is in shadow the same tone instead of darkening stuff the more turned away it is

grind quickposes or sketchdaily for at least an hour
draw for 1m,without erasing and give 1m to analyze, and generate another image, don't stop until 30 figure drawings are made. pace yourself, but don't rush. once you consistently finish poses, switch to 30s on 30s off for 60 poses a day.

Seems like an interesting video based on the first few minutes. I'll have to check this out further. And I appreciate the gesture grinding advice. It really is something I should do more of.

Do you mind elaborating on how exactly you conquered shoulders? I for the life of me cannot fucking get them right, ever. I feel like I can draw disembodied armless torsos pretty well, or at least at an acceptable level for my skill level. But when I try putting shoulders and upper arms on those torsos, everything comes unglued and its like I'm drawing shoulders way too big, way too wide, arms are too big or incorrectly seated on the torso, etc etc

literal brute force. and i still wouldn't say i "conquered" them because trying to construct with concrete anatomy principles are still a pain for me. don't focus on the size, focus on the flow of the movement from the limbs and body. the rest will come naturally.

I still don't really understand how to do construction or make use of it. I know this has mistakes and some of the placement is wrong; am I supposed to iron out every issue in this phase and make sure everything is perfect before moving on to the sketch? How do you guys actually use construction?

I also feel like a cheater because when I use a photo reference, I like to move my lines on top of the reference image occasionally just to make sure things are right instead of measuring by eye. I feel like at the stage you're at you might be better off learning basic gesture and form. I was at the place you're at for years before I finally decided to learn the most basic fundamentals. Also, don't get so hung up on being 100% accurate to the ref/real life, at least not yet. Doing super realistic stuff is for people who are masters at drawing, not pleb /begs/ like you and me.

I'm not really in any position to be giving advice, considering my art career consists of five years of a mix of "Study" and Study. But I'll do it anyway.

Make sure you follow guidelines when you put them down. Don't ignore them. Earlier today I was drawing a portrait from reference when after a while I realized I wasn't even paying attention to the guidelines I had set and was just mindlessly drawing. It ended up making the proportions go out of whack and look nothing like the actual reference image.

Follow your guidelines and don't draw with your brain turned off.

What precisely is your goal? I've seen you post at least 3 images that are all almost identical the past couple of days. Are you trying to perfect this one drawing? Do you think if someone points out what's wrong then you'll never make the same mistake again? Do you do any studies or other drawing besides these thick faceless ladies? I'm not trying to crab, but if you're drawing for fun or for yourself, then just draw to completion. Even if there's mistakes, who cares? You can look at it when it's done and analyze where it went wrong, and you'll get more out of it. If you're trying to study something specific, like anatomy/construction etc, then *do studies*, a lot of them. There's no shorthand to getting good at certain things -- If you want to have a decent handle on anatomy, you're gonna have to do a lot of anatomical studies. From there, if you want to draw more exciting poses then do gesture studies, etc. There's a ton of good resources out there for all of these things. Proko does decently informative and briefish lessons on all of this stuff. I highly recommend Vilppu or Hampton for anatomy. A bunch of video lessons by all the aforementioned are in the video course thread. >>4654003

Proko does shorter videos than Vilppu, but I'll say Vilppu is way more in-depth and will hammer in a better understanding if you can stick with it. I dunno, everyone learns differently so maybe you can pick up the concepts easily enough in 15ish minutes.

This is probably a dumbass question but when you draw a long line, does it ever become acceptable to split it into several strokes? I know if you don't draw in one stroke it'll look chicken scratchy, but shit I don't know how people train their arms to stay perfectly accurate.
