First is generic boring anime. Theres alot of ways to show beauty and oh man we've seen plenty of petite white girls as beauty for now.

Second is fucking netflix original, so at this point you are pretty lucky if you even call it art at this point. Personally i just never liked the humor in it so i never watched it, butt I would assume the rest is shitty too, so ofc the art is shitty as well. Start comparing with real western works of art instead.

Quality of art wouldn't really matter if the content was good. But in both cases, the content is on average quite shit.
I'd say anime is more "sinful" in that respect. Because while the quality of art may be more appealing, often absolutely nothing of worth is done with it---just the same tropes over and over with ecchi/fanservice sprinkled in, without fail.

I've seen many anime with some pretty out there philisophical and psychological themes that I don't see outside arthouse cinema and and really old films in the west. People who say shit like you are only looking at the mcdonalds of anime, harems and shounenshit.

Cherypicking. Nothing more, nothing less. You can find plenty of unflattering Japanese artstyles and plenty of appealing western artstyles to push a narrative. It's all subjective, I don't why people can understand that. That said I'm not sure why they used the anime on the left as an example. The Idolm@ster cg adaptation looks like ass desu.

As you should all know, the age of consent in Japan is 13 which causes some people to romanticize lolis an no one would mind. The west has the word pedo loom over everyone to be wary of kids and the social nature of the people there cause the adults to despise children, thus depicting them as unsightly.

I have a few japanese friends who are hardcore manga fans and some of the few american comics they ever readed were Hellboy and Watchmen. They also were aware of Spawn and Hitman but only one or two ever readed it. What are some other american comics that have a following in Japan? Highly-regarded series in the west like Invincible or the goon weren't never translated and localized here so I am curious

It's really just about Marxism. Being original comes second to being pleasing to the eyes over there, cause they're more pragmatic and unpozzed.
Even Korea, feminist paradise, where you can't even look at a woman if she's under 50 years old, they follow a similar aesthetics of beauty to Japanese. Cause their societal/cultural cohesion and identity is still strong, despite Americanized.
